The Eee PC was a small portable solution for surfing internet since several of my hotels are internet ready. I dun think the inbuilt flash memory has sufficient space to run the installer :bsmilie:

We *sailed* to Noboribetsu ( 登別 )from Toya. Everyone will remember Noboribetsu fondly for their sulfurous onsens and their bear farms.

Our lodging in Noboribetsu is the huge and popular Daiichi Takimotokan
登別第一瀧本館.

Superb services. We got two ladies to accompany us to our room - one portered all luggages, the other lady ushured us to our room, and she insisted we used the escalator while she walks the stairs beside ( ?!? )

* the picture above was one of the musical structures erected at the centre of the Daiichi, that plays a tune every hour with different puppets coming out of a huge golden cudgel

The view of Noboribetsu Hell Valley right from the window of our room in Daiichi.
A faint tinge of sulphur if you open the windows.

A pan stitch of 9 shots in all.

We actually could only check in at ? 2 pm , so we left our stuffs and toured Noboribetsu for the good amount of morning. ( #121 was taken after we checked in )

Daiichi is the nearest hotel to Hell Valley. And here is the landmark of Noboribetsu - The Hell Valley 地獄谷 ( Jigokudani ) Here we met a Hong Kong tour group with a really cheeky tour guide, and got them to take some pictures for us.

View, feel, smell, and soak yourself in sulfurous steams venting from all around.
Taken from slightly above the wooden walkway to the valley

There is a short trail taking 30 - 40 mins stroll from the Jidokudani ( gentle up and downslopes only ), where you can visit the other hotspring pools around the area.

English signages will direct u around. Shouldn get lost inside :bsmilie: This route is often missed by tour agencies - they will probably bring you only to the Jidokudani and give u 15 minutes to roam around and take some shots. With abit more time u might be able to complete the entire route.

Here is a panoramic take of Oyunuma of Noboribetsu
Pretty windy that day, and of course lots of choking sulfur steam
There is a carpark opposite the Oyunuma, and u can probably choose to drive the route ( but u will end up parking somewhere to walk a little to visit the other hotsprings within the reserve.

My registration date reflects the time i got my D80.

Remember to browse through more of people's work and familiarize with your equipment before you go for the trip. Read up the places before you go traveling to have an idea how things have been taken and how you might achieve different angles. Come up with things you might want to try before hand and try out locally first. In my case I know I will not be able to have much time to setup and compose during the trip, and the more important it is to see the picture you need, and snap and go ( of course I wasted a few that did not turn out well - would have much more and better yield if it were a dedicated photog trip, but for a holiday trip I am quite satisfied )

Here is a take of the lake at a different vantage point when the skies seemed a little clearer from the steam, saturated

Presenting the Noboribetsu bear !

Oh nice... can see the smoke....

Thx bro. It was steaming up everywhere actually

I took a few other shots of the onsen area actually. But shall proceed to the Noboribetsu Bear farm. ( We checked in after our lunch and headed straight for the bear farm )

Take a short chair lift up to the cable car station and then take a cable car ride up to the top station reaching the Noboribetsu Bear Farm / Park. The ride should take about 5 mins. A pretty scenic ride

Here is a shot i took beneath the cable cars

Backposting a shot before the cable car ride up Bear farm
- The Oyu Numagawa stream - pretty hot water, but tourists will soon get used to this nice warm soak within this lovely forested path. BTW it is supposed to be medicinal.

The surrounding steam created a nice fogged effect. I did not bother to sharpen this shot.
Taken with a VariND, and a GND to hold back the top - but still blew the highlights on the top. ( The legs of my tripod of course having a nice soak as well ! ) The surrounding foliage created a strong green color cast over the water body that made correction a little tricky, but decided to leave abit of the hues as such.
