here is what people normally do... they find Cathay Photo or other photography shop's contact details on the search engine or their name card... give them a call ... or ask for an equote.

Simple isn't it?

Happy shooting :)

Hi sputnik

Thanks for the suggestion......alrdy call them but all i get was the "are you serious" type of tone and then never gave me the quote and put down the phone...

tat is why i post on this forum thinking maybe someone may have purhase this or know roughly how much it is for this setup so that i may work up or save up to that budget.

i also hope it will be simple

as a very rough guide...try and work towards saving for a new car? :dunno:

just out of curiousity, how much did you expect a MF and Digital Back to cost?

A good set of MF kit will set u back at least 10k ... and a digital back 4 times that amount...

Besides most ppl who needs a MF and Digital Back setup would have been in the industry for a while and would know the price(s). So its not unexpected that shops that sell such equipment will treat people who call in looking for such equipment to be pranksters.

Besides, with the cost of the digital back at such astronomical prices, stick with film and a good scanner.

None of the backs are full size!

I was at Cathay Photo a couple of days ago and asked about the MF digital back solely out of curiosity, the nice salesman said a 17 megapixel one could cost about (or above S$ 30K   ). Now that is serious money. I would rather get a Mk1 Ds or whatever and keep the spare change!

How can you the prices if you didn't asked them? Prices of these backs fluctuates very fast, and differ alot in different places.....no, I don't see any problem in people asking for prices, especially with these higher end products one better ask fo rprices and ask whta it comes with. Now these prices come with pesonal support from Cathay, so that's calculated.....overhere in HK prices are a lot lower by the way....:-),but prices can fluctuate.....shops who don't give prices are potentially losing a customer.....

true...to a certain extent ;) there are people who are not photographers by profession...but with a lot of serious spare cash to, well, spare...who buy high end digital backs and end up shooting insects and bugs in their backgardens and oogle at the amount of detail they can get ("ooh, look at the hairs on the legs!")

personally i have come across such people browsing at Cathay.i'm sure i'm not the only one.

Instead of asking the price of medium format and digital back, why don't ask yqt about what this thing can do for you first.

If you have that much money to spend, good for you, enjoy that what money can do for you. :D

thanks everyone for the input...

think i will get one with digital back compactibility first and wait for the digital back price to fluctuate or drop..... in the meanwhile i jus shoot with a polaroid mag for checking and film mag for print.....

Most MF are expensive.. But there's also some cheaper ones like Seagul, Kiev, etc which cost around $500 to a few K... A complete set of Hasselblad or Mamiya will prob cost more than $10K.

The new Integrated MF Digital Camera from Hasselblad, Hasselblad H1D 22Mpixels is over $40K. ISO 50-400, Shutter 1/800s to 32 secs. Comes with a 40GB storage if I'm not wrong. Per image size is about 66MB for 8 bit RGB and 132MB for 16but RGB......

Posting your questions in the Medium Format Section will be more effective
than consumer corner.. ;p
