So many postings of MBS/Esplanade area at night... not surprising I guess as it is indeed turning out to be a most beautiful place. Lots of guys with tripods running aroung - I was one of them, ha ha! Here are some of my own attemts to try and capture the essence of that place. :)

lovely shots . . . :)

#2 is lovely

Thanks very much guys. There is a magic 5-10 mins each night when the sky turns a nice blue - wonderful as background.

It's very beautiful. Care to share your settings.

Thks. Used D700 for these shots. ISO kept low, around 200 to 400 most of the time. First 3 shots were taken with the Zeiss ZF 35/2, set at about f5.6 I think. So, shutter speed is low of course, some 5 sec on ave.

Lightly processed from RAW files.
Must say the D700 AWB did a very good job!

Hi,

I really loves your #2nd pic, the highlight of the sky was very nice , importantly is your contrast between the sky and the building was evenly expose, just curious did u use HDR to process your 2nd pic ?

Overall, i m awe of your pic. =D

Thanks. No HDR for any of the pictures. I'm quite a dinosaur when it comes to digital manipulation. For #2, it is a matter of timing. Shoot too early and the buildings will be too dark relative to the sky, and if too late, the sky becomes very dark. A matter of experimenting.

4th photo "pano attempt" is nice; It offers a different perspective. :)

Just to share a few more night shots... really wonderful place for night photography. Had great fun and will surely go back there again and again to look for more interesting angles :)

the last 2 photos, MBS was cut off half way, and esplanade too.
sshould have stepped back to either include them, or completely exclude it

Hi, thks for your comments. On the MBS photo, I agree it was not so good to chop off a bit of the building on the right, but I had to do that to avoid extremely bright construction floodlights shinning straight into the lens. The last photo... including the entire Esplanade will make all the buildings a bit too small, so it was a compromise of sorts.

Thanks
