Hi to all,
Due to the lack of suitable, low priced slave flashes on the market for digital cameras, I am custom making this flash from Suntax.
More orders will help drive the price down. At the same time can help fellow clubsnappers get a nice affordable slave flash. :)

Suntax Slave Flash
Price: $80

- Note: Product Information below outdated -

Features:
  • GN 32 meters
  • Manual Override for setting flash, etc full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16... flash power -- (Can do, but need space in the body to accomodate the switch.)
  • Circuit to allow first flash to trigger timer, then second flash to trigger flash within the timing period of 120 ms. This pretty much allivates a problem with slave flashes being triggered by another's flash. Normal film P&S/SLRs do not fire 2 flashes.
  • Auto power sensor has only one F stop. we are looking at multiple F stop. Multiple F stop will make Item 1 redundant. It would eight this multiple F stop or multiple power level. the item 3 is more user friendly.
  • Turn/Swivel Right Left Up Down - Allows bounce even while on Potrait mode (eg. when the camera is turned 90 degrees)
  • Mountable on cold shoe
  • Does not react to red eye flash as it is very trigger together with preflash. for those with preflash, there is no need for the red eye setting in the camera.
  • Zoom - YES
  • More advance than thyristor, allows for FAST cycle times
  • Uses 4 AA
  • Completed units as above will be about 120 sing. or more on open market. if the shop don't charge this as a one of a kind in the market.

It should look something like this:

Ordering Details
A deposit is necessary before confirmation for every order, this is to prevent cases where participants chage their minds after the order is placed or the mysterious disappearance of participants when the products arrive. Sorry but this is necessary for I have to pay the manufacturer in full before I can get the stuff. I would prefer an electronic transfer, for this is by far the easiest and most convinient method. It can be done either through the internet or by using an ATM.

Please PM me if you'd like to order.
Kindly include:
  • Name/Nick
  • Email
  • Contact Number -- Required, Prefer Handphone, no pager pls

Confirmed Collection Date - 4th June 2003 Wednesday
To coincide with SEED

Time: 6:30pm to 8:00pm
Place: Peninsular Plaza Basement Foodcourt

If you see a black, yellow and red box with Suntax flashes, you would have gotten to the right place.

I understand that some of you are rather unhappy with how long this MO took, and I apologise for the unexpectely long time and hitches that delayed things.

stk, sorry for all the trouble. Hope you and Sk8te can work something out. In any event, please do make sure that one of you collects your flash next Wednesday.

Thanks for your understanding and patience with this.

but better keep this MO low profile as i was told last time that they are not suppose to sell directly to end user

Not true at all.
Both Nikon and Canon's latest flash system all use preflash.
If you are shooting anything with a group of other photographers you are likely to kana like xiao. The flash head may will overheat and burn off.

Of course this can be overcomed by DIYing a channel for the Digicam's flash to reach the slave sensor by enclosing both in a piece of paper, the paper will also block out the other ppl's sensor from reaching the slave sensor.

But then doesn't this make them need a slave that can ignore double flash?

I'll explore that when I get the chance. :)

They didn't mention anything like that to me.

Anyqway, this flash is not avaliable through retail channels, so I don't forsee any problems. :)

does this have inbuilt sensor to sense how much flash to emit?
i'm using canon a40
in hardwarezone, i asked abt including a L-bracket. or a bracket
as Kako 9000 has one and cost abt 85 though the GN is onli 24

Hi,
firstly, why would you need a bracket?

Well, I believe suntax has a handle version, which acts like the bracket. Yes, it does uses an onboard sensor but you can
1. + or - 1 stop
2. Manual override (Custom feature)

Do ask if you have more qs!

cos canon a40 has no shoe to fit the flash
i'm really interested as i have started a thread b4. :)

Is it suitable for olyc2100uz?

This slave works with virtually all camera that have an on board flash.

It works by sensing the flash from the camera to trigger its own onbard flash.

Oh, you can just get the L bracket anisywhere. You can then mount this on it. :)
how much does an L bracket cost and where can I get it?

Instead of having the on board flash trigger off the slave, is it possible to connect a external sync cable to it as input?

I'm using the c2100uz and that's what i'm doing right now with a sb27 flash.

In that way, the problem of having the slave flash triggered off by other camera flashes will be avoided?

I believe most of the people interested in buying slave flashes are those who have cameras that do not have the sync cable connector, nor have a hot shoe to plug a flash onto.

Or have a non-standard/generic plug. ;)

I do think that there is a plug, but I'm not too clear with the details. It accepts a 3 pin/connector jack, most likely can be used if a suitable cable is found.

As for the bracket, maybe some of you guys here might know. I personally have no idea.

Is a diffuser the same as omni bounce?
