I totally agree with Lexar. I am also not into shooting birds or wild life , but my children and people around me. I am also just a beginner. I may not be able to afford to buy CZ lenses and G lenses. It is sometimes rather discouraging to find that a numer of the third party lenses does not come in Alpha mount. Video function is also not available too...... Having said all these , I will stick on to Alpha as I am happy with the in camera IS , liveview ......... etc....

I guess I have to learn to be patient.....

Hahaha,it is not going to be cheap: G Lens 70-200MM $2399, CZ 2X :sweat:only God know

Hello, third party lens always dont meet the sharpness , spend a good lens & u will be very happy

A-700 is already very good especially the four version firm ware upgrade .just to get a good lens may be 16-80MM is good enough for u and is below 1K and make perfect for your kids memory .:sweatsm:

@800 will be a upgraded version ba..16 megs? live view? sometimes we end up buying the functions which we dont fully use it..

My old D7D is working great..just hate the yellowish cast plus noise at times..but use to it now.:bsmilie:

So is my 5D but when I see what comes straight out of a A200/A300 box I know I likely spend more time shooting then processing.

Lens investment? Sure, I already do cover the 28-200 range in G glass, what else to buy then. (Well, am looking at the 50mm 2.8 macro but that is a lens I just snap from the shop)

I have nothing against the A700, very nice camera but technology that is dated more then 2 years now and if I buy a new body I would like to shoot again for another 5 years since I am not THAT much interested in constant changes.

Well, I still hold on to the statement that Sony will announce their moves in the summer. Depending on what and when they release I make a decision. So, either the proposed 'A800' or the A900 after all.

But frustrating it slowly is.

probably sony is more interested to push out the HX1 rather than releasing a new Alpha body this year.

doesn't a body upgrade decrease the postprocessing required

My point exactly. And as far as the HX1, Sony indeed seems to focus on the hig-end compacts now. Great for them, not so nice for us. Perhaps following the legend of Minolta in being rather slow with DSLR? lol ..

it's was say that sony will focus on compact cam the first half of the year.
the second half they will be back on DSLR

Well when I was buying my A900, I overhead the boss saying that they did a fantastic job at the IT Show... their target was 800 pieces of SONY compacts (I'm guessing which type of cameras but am sure it was SONY products) but they sold 1200 pieces instead... ran out of stock and free gifts... so I guess it's the compact market that moves fastest off the shelves... most of my friends, colleagues, students look and my camera and give me a bonkers look... too complicated when all they want is a snapshot...

if the HX1 is good i won't mind getting it for casual shooting.

compacts are hassle free & easy to shoot plus not many want to haul along a DSLR to parties or events. leave it to face detection & scene selection to get the job done.

Mid of this month, Nikon first, Sony later...;)

Summer is that early this year? You keep on doing the guessing game, it's like the casino, if you play enough there will be a day that you win. Do not attempt to count the days that you have lost though ..

Sony's statement said that new DSLR announcement will be done in the summer of 09, what makes you think it is going to be this month ..

I dont guess at all, just follow the internal news;) they should come out around Feb-March, but get delay...sony supply nikon chip first.
