since there are no more pro shops will also mean that they may not readily stock the premium line lenses (CZ / G)

I am not surprise...

The other day, I was at CP and just casually asking how was business (for Sony products). The sales guy complained quite a bit, and said how not so profitable in selling Sony's camera and lenses. They guy also said, they were not the only shop facing such issue. I did not probe further, on what he meant by not profitable (as in not enough sales or margin too low).

Contrastingly to SSC, the feeling I get from them is good business. In fact, from the response of the sales person, it seems, during the recent IT shows, they made more sales than anticipated. And from what I know, the A300/A350 hard cover screen protector was out of stock for a few weeks. Only recently they received a fresh shipment, and it is going out fast. I bought 1 from Wisma SSC (the last piece in the shop) and 2 more from Paragon SSC as backup. According to the sales person at Paragon, they left only 1 piece after I bought mine.

Somehow, I got impression that, Sony's strategy is benefiting more to its direct sales channel than traditional camera shops.

Yah, it's quite pointless to have another shop next to the main one just selling Sony stuff....additional rental and manpower....

i never thought the idea of a specific sony pro retailer shop would kick off, especially if they're located just beside some main camera stores (eg. MSC, CP-P)

however, if they could do something more than just retail, that would be nice. maybe lens rental, maybe a small walk-in studio f.o.c. for alpha users... blah blah blah, thats for sony marketing to think about, not me!

back to the point, consumers are flooded with choices in consumer electronics these days. to set up a retail outlet selling one specific brand and series of products (mainly alpha cameras, with some misc sony stuff) is like suicide.

Well, a "pro" shop without facilities - like the ability to be able to "drop off" specific pro-related equipment for RMA purposes pretty much defeats the meaning of a "Pro Shop"... it's more of a specialty store in that sense. :)

I just realised yesterday that the Sony shop for MSC is re-opened.

I wonder what happened, it was closed for almost a week earlier...and shop was quite empty that time...

Stock taking???

Can't wait for the A700 replacement..... If drag so long ...may jump ship to C**** , or N****
:)

Actually time waits for no one...esp if you got kids and they grow so fast everyday that you will see their facial details change so even you won't notice till you browse back the photos you took.

So of course, we want to take as much good quality photos as possible....

is @700 not good enough?

of course good enough...

but @800 will be better....

@800 will be a upgraded version ba..16 megs? live view? sometimes we end up buying the functions which we dont fully use it..

My old D7D is working great..just hate the yellowish cast plus noise at times..but use to it now.:bsmilie:

Hahax changing new DSLR? why not invest in lenses? ;)
since alpha 800 havent out yet, buy 70-200 G 1st, then maybe STF lens or prime lens?
So you can take more details rather you had A800 and kits lens. Over all, the lens is the eye of the camera and not really the processor or the body. So relax, and spend money on lenses(If too much money to spend). If not, relax and shoot more. :D

I believe the current Alpha line up (both body and lenses) are still good enough specially for us who already invested in Alpha system. We should be bother whether are we utilizing it to the fullest and our skill have outgrown our equipments.
As someone said (and I agree) -> photography is about shooting pictures with your heart in it, gears are just utility/tools derived from getting the pictures we want, but it may not be the hindrance on getting the pictures we can love and proud of.

Just continue to see, shoot and share.. and equipment will become secondary...'pics talk!';)

Of course agree lens makes a huge difference in obtaining good picture quality.

However, it depends on individual shooting needs. For me, I am not into birds shooting or wildlife shoots, so long zoom to me is useless.

I primarily take pictures of my family, esp my son so as to capture all the beautiful moments we have together (it's beautiful to me & wife only and I think that's motive of using dslr for many of us anyway, to meet each and every needs).

Of course, when we reach certain stage where we have outgrown the camera itself and with same set of lens and requirements, it's time to look for better camera body with better quality and I certainly hope the next Alpha can improve on it's high ISO noise level to compete with the C&N camps.

LiveView and Video will also add advantage to normal consumers like myself though, since we are not professionals and not into FF, so I would categorize A200-A700 as consumer grade cameras.
