There have been people of other races who are turned away despite being able to speak Mandarin. :thumbsd:

'Turned away' means not successful in the job application or not accepted to apply ? I doubt it is the latter. Able to speak Mandarin does not mean the person will definitely get the job, there are Chinese who got their applications rejected too.

gee...i dun know about this issue....ok lemme tell you....i work in a company where all the other workers are chinese....and i am the only one malay....yes its difficult to communicate at first as most of the workers as well as my boss and supervisor will speak in cantonese and mandarin....my admin manager and her assistant speak english and gossip in mandarin...so after 4 years i've learnt to converse in mandarin, can be instructed/understand in cantonese but i cant reply back and lastly sing/scold abusively in hokkien......:bsmilie: :bsmilie: all this language thing makes you indispensable :sweatsm:

You begin to start the realization of having the ability to glimpse into the world of "Who is the master of languages?"

The one man who had predicted and wanted Singaporeans
to be ready for the onslaught of economic power of China is
none other than our SM with his "Speak Mandarin" campaign
more than one and half decade ago. Back then those non
speaking Mandarin folks attending Mandarin classes
immediately are reaping the rewards now. :)
