Well, congrats to everton, they deserved the win. Really surprised that Berba missed and they din change penalty takers to let Tevez take the 2nd kick. The 1st goal is impt, gives the team confidence and since Berba missed, I think Tevez should take the 2nd and he surely can take a better penalty than Rio.

I am actually happy that manchester united is out of FA cup. The youngerster did a pretty impressive job of holding a premier league team, everton, for 120 mins. Losing on penalty is hard to swallow but is this football. Fielding youngster and crashing out mean that they have 1 less fixture to play and the key players is well rested. Winning the Premier league and Champions League is more important priority for Manchester United currently.

Hopefully Everton can win the the FA cup, then we kick the blue out of the champions league and go on to win the premier league. Leaving the blue and the red camp with no silverware this season. =)

Damn...why Ferdinand took the penalty? He is never a penalty taker...There are so many better options, Anderson should go first, Tevez, Scholes...I think even Welbec and Danny Gibson can do better job :dunno: If MU first team around, no way they will loose the shoot out...no way

Um, this was the semi-final so the only 'extra fixture' would be the final on 30 May. Assuming (and this is a big assumption) that the devils reach the CL final on 27 May, the FA Cup final is actually after the CL final this year. So there wouldn't have been any issues with being 'rested' for the CL or EPL. In fact if anything the players would be tired out at the FA Cup final.

Oh well, moot point now anyway.

Congrats to the blue half of Merseyside - well done.

Boring match, too many passing without results and can't see anyone capable of scoring.
Ben Foster looks shaky also, for twice kicking the ball into Everton's player.
And what is Berbetov doing? One of the softest penalty I have ever seen, doesn't seems interested at all, super bochap!

I think he is going for placing! Cos in shoot out either u blast or place.

Rio shouldnt have taken but i think SAF lineup those more liao jiao to take penalty!

It's quite a pity that we've come so far and lose due to penalty and I agree with the bros that Tevez or Scholes should step up to take the penalty. Berbatov is really lousy. :thumbsd: Never liked his style of play. If only Van Der Sar, Ronaldo and Rooney was there, we would have sealed the game without going into extra time.

Pliz, somebody pliz tell me Berbatov is packing!!!

I can't watch him anymore!!! He simply SUCKS!

Is that what we have paid 30 million over for, just to let him miss that penalty kick? Shame on him!!!

Pliz kick him out before he destroys the team.

Our passing and attacking are poor in the game. If you look at the first half statistics, there is a few attempts on goal but ZERO on target. There are too many passing without attempt on goal even when the balls are already inside the box and so close to the goalpost. Seems like not many of the players wants to take up the responsibility of goal attempt, probably afraid of been labelled as selfish if they didn't pass to someone who is in a "better" position to strike.

People compare Berbetov with Eric Cantona but the thing is, Eric Cantona delivers when its matters!

Hokkien say - Cannot swim blame the swimming trunks too big. :sticktong

When I saw the line-up, I already guess that Fergie (not the singer) is half serious about the FA Cup. Perhaps it's a wise move - short-term pain for long term gain. The youngsters have a good outing at Wembley and it will definitely do them good in future.

It's obvious that Fergie (not the singer) wants to score a hat trick with the Premier League title and then be the first team in Europe to retain the Champions League crown. The old man has big ambitions ;)

He have been fielding the youngster from the start of this competition which is also not bad la...if no big ambitions won't be at OT for morer then 20yrs!:bsmilie::devil:

seriously, looks like a kelong game lor. no kidding.

Yes, the plan was to avoid getting the youngsters to take penalties. Think the plan was:

1st: Berba
2nd: Rio
3rd: Vidic
4th: Anderson
5th: Tevez

But after Berba missed, I felt Tevez should have taken the 2nd penalty. In essence, he will be the 1st taker as both Berba and Cahill missed. In League Cup final, Tevez was the 1st taker. I think if he scored, the rest will gain confidence.

In penalty shootouts, I think the 1st and 5th takers are the most impt and should be taken by the strikers or penalty/deadball specialist. If your 1st taker missed, I think the plan should be flexible enough to change takers to allow a another striker to take over.

i think its not possible to change the penalty takers after the list has been decided.
fergie probably wanted the experienced to take as the pressure is big.
and ferdinand was a striker last time too, if im not wrong.... so maybe in that sense, he expected ferdinand to put it in, given his experienced and able to take pressure.

Just looked at the Premier League schedule for the next few days, and realised that Chelsea and Everton play each other tomorrow. I would deem this as a preview of the FA Cup final and both Managers will surely use this game to test water and assess current forms in preparation for the Cup final one month later.

Man Utd will face Portsmouth tomorrow, and I'm sure Alex Ferguson will field his strongest side in a bid to resume leadership in the League, that is assuming Liverpool win or draw with Arsenal in tonight's game. Both Liverpool and Arsenal are the in-form teams now, and although I hate to say it, but I think Liverpool has the slight edge in tonight's game. Well, the ball is round, anything can happen ;)
