Ji-sung Park led by example when he netted in Korea Republic's 4-1 rout of United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.
Captaining his country for the full 90 minutes, Park scored the second goal with a powerful shot into the top corner and created the third for Lee-Keun Ho with a neat through-ball. Lee-Keun Ho had earlier given the South Koreans the lead. The fourth and final goal was scored by Kwak Tae-hee.
The comprehensive victory in Seoul puts Korea Republic top of their World Cup qualifying group after two games, the first of which was a draw with rivals Korea DPR.
Wayne Rooney was instrumental as England achieved their best-ever start to a World Cup qualifying campaign by beating Belarus 3-1. For the second time in five days, the United striker scored twice for his national team - both goals came in the second half after the first period ended 1-1.
He was also involved in England's opening goal, netted by Liverpool's Steven Gerrard. Rooney didn't complete the match - he came off to an ovation from the travelling fans in the 88th minute - but both Wes Brown and captain Rio Ferdinand played the full 90.
John O'Shea and Darron Gibson were both on duty throughout Republic of Ireland's 1-0 win over Cyprus. Liverpool's Robbie Keane scored the crucial goal at Croke Park. In the same group, Dimitar Berbatov captained Bulgaria to a battling 0-0 draw away to Georgia.
Nemanja Vidic enjoyed the same result as his English colleagues, 3-1 away from home against Austria.
Cristiano Ronaldo had a frustrating night, however, as Portugal were held 0-0 at home by Albania. He skippered Carlos Queiroz's side from start to finish and was joined on the field from the 55th minute by substitute Nani.
Elsewhere, Edwin van der Sar kept his second clean sheet in two games as Holland secured a1-0 away victory in Norway, thanks to Mark van Bommel's second half strike.
Anderson was an unused substitute in Brazil's goalless draw against Colombia in Rio de Janeiro, and Patrice Evra also found himself on the bench for the duration of France's 3-1 friendly victory over Tunisia in Paris.
