The History Men
Sir Alex Ferguson has promised Manchester United's Munich survivors: "We won't let you down." Five of the original Busby Babes will be in the Luzhniki Stadium here tonight adding their emotional support in the hope United can commemorate the 50th anniversary of the air crash that wiped out 23 people, including eight players. Sir Bobby Charlton, Bill Foulkes, Harry Gregg, Albert Scanlon and Kenny Morgans have been given the VIP treatment by United. And Ferguson thinks that will inspire his team to make their own special tribute by beating Chelsea in the first all-English European Champions League final. "The pressure is on us to do well in this final,” said Ferguson. "We gave the Champions League higher priority this season bearing in mind what happened 50 years ago. There was an unexpressed vow by everybody at the club to pay proper respect to that great team of 1958. It has been on everyone's mind."

Other lead stories in the preview-packed newspapers include The Sun's claim that tonight's Champions League final will be "the richest match in football history", worth £85m to the winners and £30m to the runners-up. Claude Makelele's challenge on Ashley Cole during the Chelsea training session is also well covered, while Peter Schmeichel, Alex Stepney and Phil Neville are among the former United players backing the Reds to triumph.
Another ex-Red is quoted by The Sun on Cristiano Ronaldo's future. Former defender Gabriel Heinze doesn't expect his good friend to follow him to Real Madrid, at least not while Sir Alex is still at United. "I talk with Ronaldo all the time and I tell him how great this club is and the nice things that Madrid has. But he has a coach who had trust in him when he was younger. Whilst Ferguson is at United it is very difficult (for Ronaldo to leave)."
