Andrei wants final repeat

Former United winger Andrei Kanchelskis is hoping his old side can secure another 4-0 cup final victory over Chelsea in Moscow on Wednesday night.

The ex-Red visited the team's headquarters in the Russian capital on Tuesday to wish them luck ahead of the Champions League final clash.

Kanchelskis was part of the 1994 domestic double-winning side and helped the Reds overcome the Blues by four goals in the FA Cup final at Wembley. And he wants a repeat result at the Luzhniki Stadium.

"I remember when I played in the FA Cup final in '94 we beat them 4-0 - I hope for the same result this time round!" he joked in an interview with ManUtd.com.

"It was great to see all the players, particularly some of my old team-mates like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville. I've also seen the boss and wished him all the best for Wednesday.

"I had four great years at Old Trafford. The players, the staff and the fans are something special. They are the still the team in my heart.

"It's a huge day for the club on Wednesday. There have already won one trophy and I'm confident they'll win a second."

Vidic fit, Cole crocked?

The fitness of two key defenders - one for each side - was a big talking point after United and Chelsea went through separate training sessions on Tuesday.

Nemanja Vidic missed United's work-out at the Luzhniki Stadium on Tuesday, but Sir Alex Ferguson said in his press conference, "Nemanja is on a different training programme to the rest of the squad, but he will definitely play."

The news comes as a major relief considering the robust central defender is a key component in United's defence alongside Rio Ferdinand.

Ashley Cole started Chelsea's training session but didn't complete it after he was on the receiving end of a two-footed challenge from team-mate Claude Makelele. The left-back seemed to be in some discomfort as he received treatment from the physios, and he could be a doubt as Avram Grant considers his starting XI to face United.

Vidic wasn't the only United player absent as the other 22 players were put through their paces on the pitch in Moscow, as Louis Saha was also not involved. However, Sir Alex did not indicate why the French forward did not train.

United are 4/6 favourites to bring the European Cup home and 11/8 to beat Chelsea in 90 minutes.

The Blues are 11/10 to deny United the double and 9/4 to win in 90 minutes. It’s 2/1 for the match to go to extra time.

If extra time is played, the Reds are 8/1 and Chelsea 11/1 to triumph in the additional half-hour. Both teams are 9/1 to win on penalties.

Cristiano Ronaldo is 5/1 favourite to score the first goal, with Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba next in the list at 13/2.

Ronaldo is 11/8 to find the net at any time within the 90 minutes but, as he is the regular penalty-taker, a more attractive bet to punters could be the 6/1 that United score with a spot-kick during normal time.

Three of United’s frontmen have been priced up to score a hat-trick with Ronaldo at 33/1, Rooney at 50/1 and Carlos Tevez at 66/1.

Reds keen to tie-up Tevez deal

Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to have secured Carlos Tevez's services on a permanent basis by the start of the next season.

The Argentine is currently still on a loan contract, but the man himself insisted last week that he would sign a contract "right now" if it was put in front of him after helping the Reds secure a tenth league title.

Sir Alex has been delighted by the striker's overall contribution and says chief executive David Gill has made good progress with negotiations over a long term deal.

"That is without question part of our future planning," insisted the boss. "David has progressed on that as best he can. Hopefully we can come to a solution.

"Carlos has been fantastic for us. It amazes me how the man can have so much energy in games. He also has the ability to score important goals, much like Eric Cantona used to. He's been a revelation for us."

Another ex-Red is quoted by The Sun on Cristiano Ronaldo's future. Former defender Gabriel Heinze doesn't expect his good friend to follow him to Real Madrid, at least not while Sir Alex is still at United. "I talk with Ronaldo all the time and I tell him how great this club is and the nice things that Madrid has. But he has a coach who had trust in him when he was younger. Whilst Ferguson is at United it is very difficult (for Ronaldo to leave)."

Yes, Scholes will start but I hope he does not start Giggs as well. Think he dun have the legs to last that long and Chelsea is too physical and powerful for him. I think the man that can stop Chelsea's midfield is Anderson. :devil:

no matter how much i wish scholes will not start, i think he will
more or less have to give a bit of face to scholes

for me, the midfield that i would like to see most is ronaldo, park, anderson, hargreaves.
altho i giggs is still way better than park, he dun have the speed and reaction like he had. so maybe a 60 or 70 min sub for giggs will be nice.
i believe old ppl still has some stamina, but they lose speed and reaction more, which is critical in giggs game
