Boss scoops LMA honour

Sir Alex Ferguson's tenth Premier League title has been recognised by the League Managers' Association, who have voted him Manager of the Year.

The Scot scooped the top award from his peers for the second time at Monday evening's awards ceremony in Nottingham, having previously won it in 1999.

"I'm very proud to receive it," said a beaming Sir Alex.

"It is a tremendous honour that my fellow managers should deem me worthy of this award."

Having cemented United's position at the top of the pile in England, Sir Alex is now confident that his bubbling players can rule Europe by overcoming Chelsea in next week's Champions League final.

"The mood generated by the win puts us in a very confident position," he said.

"I expect my players to have the ability and confidence to play on the biggest stage in the world; of that I have absolutely no doubt."

Cristiano Ronaldo has reiterated his desire to remain at Old Trafford after helping the Reds to title glory for the second year running.

The 23-year-old's sensational form this season, which to date has included a tally of 41 goals, has not gone unnoticed by Europe's top clubs, most notably Real Madrid who have gone public on their desire to sign the winger.

Ronaldo says he is loving life in Manchester and believes Old Trafford is the perfect place at which to further his football education.

"I'm at the right club, playing with the right players and I learn things all the time," he declared in an interview with MUTV.

"That's what great about being at United. I improve all the time and I want to improve every season. I think I'm a better player now than five years ago.

"This season has been a great one for me - I've scored a lot of goals, the team have played very well and we're champions. It's amazing."

Ronaldo set United on their way to sealing their latest Championship crown at Wigan , coolly converting a first half penalty at the JJB Stadium. Ryan Giggs' strike late on ensured the title would remain at Old Trafford after another memorable campaign.

"It's a great feeling to win the league - I don't have the words to describe how it feels to be champions, it's amazing," beamed Ronaldo. "I didn't think it would go to the final day of the season, but to be honest the feeling is better [to win on the last day].

"When the ref blew the final whistle it was brilliant. We've worked hard for nine months and I feel very proud to be champions."

That's the different between a big club and a great club....for example...you can use money to buy players and win trophy and be a big club.....but you are not great if the fans or spectators do not think so :sweat: Also...how can you be great if you change your manager every other years? Look at Fergie....Look at Arsene (honestly IMO Arsenal is great under him, they still have the longest winning streak if I am not mistaken and he 'd groom so many great young players like Anelka, Henry, Viera, Fabregash etc etc)...they provided a stable platform for the club and to concentrate on playing football.....Chelsea is nearly there if Mourinho stays on and win another few more trophies......As for Liverpool....I do not know what they are actually fighting for in recent years...their internal scuffle among the managements even made the club a laughing stock....gone are the days that they never walk alone :sweat:

Boss gets set for Moscow

Having allowed himself and his players the chance to savour their latest Premier League title triumph over the last 72 hours, Sir Alex Ferguson is now working on his plan of action to ensure the Reds finish as champions of Europe as well.

The Reds head to Moscow next week ahead of the Champions League final clash with Chelsea at the Luzhniki Stadium on 21 May.

Sir Alex has great faith in his squad of players and believes going into the final as champions gives them a great chance of glory.

"Winning the title gives us the confidence we need to go there," he told MUTV. "I’ve got players with the confidence and ability to play on the biggest stage in the world, don’t worry about that.

"We’ve a great chance. There is a mood, generated from Sunday’s result [at Wigan], that sees us in a very confident position.

"It won’t be easy. Cup finals are not easy. That’s the great experience I’ve got from them. We expect a tough game but we also expect Manchester United to express themselves in a fantastic way.

"After Sunday’s celebrations and a rest for the players on Monday, Tuesday morning will be the start of us winning the European Cup."

Sir Alex will take a 25-man squad to the Russian capital, but with only 18 places available for the match itself, the boss knows he has some tough decisions ahead.

"The hardest part will be leaving players off the bench," he admits. "We had 26 players at Wigan. Obviously Ben Foster can’t play [he’s not registered for Europe this season]. But even then, of the 25 players who are available for Moscow, seven can’t come in.

That’s a heartache.

"I’ve had to do it in the past. It was made easier for me in 1999 in the sense that Paul Scholes and Roy Keane were suspended and Henning Berg was injured.

"In Rotterdam I had to leave Neil Webb out of the squad and my own son Darren as well, and that wasn’t easy. But somebody has to make a decision in life, and a manager has to do that. I won’t look forward to it but I know I have to do it."

Ronaldo clinches awards treble

The individual awards keep rolling in for Cristiano Ronaldo, who has picked up the Barclays Player of the Season and Barclays Golden Boot awards to complete a sensational season.

The 23-year-old Portuguese wing wiazard also collected a merit award for reaching 30 league goals this season.

Ronaldo was pivotal in United's Barclays Premier League title success and it was no surprise that he earned the Barclays Player of the Season accolade for the second year in succession.

Whichever way you look at it, Ronaldo has been exceptional this season, and the stats back it up. His 31 goals from 34 league appearances helped see off stiff opposition for the awards from Arsenal’s Emmanuel Adebayor and Fernando Torres of Liverpool.

It's the first time a player has scored more than 30 league goals in a season since Alan Shearer’s 31-goal haul for Blackburn Rovers twelve years ago.

The merit award for reaching 30 goals will also benefit one lucky charity as Ronaldo will receive £1,000 for every goal scored to be donated to a charity of his choice.

However, for all the personal awards showered on the Madeiran magician, his sights will be firmly set on the Champions League trophy in Moscow next Wednesday.
