Thanks Alvin.. we actually saw the mimic twice at two different sites (one in Minahasa house reef, one in Lembeh). Too bad I didn't see it 'mimic' anything, but still a good find by the DM.

Thanks for the fish ID. So anglerfish = frogfish? But I thought all anglerfish had the dangling bit/bait on the head, and not all frogfishes have it..?

It's the same. Just a matter or preference in the use of the common names. Although the use of the latin scientific names is always preferred by the scientists. But i guess in general divers will call them frog fish or froggies. :bsmilie:

love the squid shot!
Hmm.. do mimics swim upwards away from the ground normally? if not, then its the same "procedure" every time I see a shot like that. I got one too! =X

Don't think it's normal although when mimics/wunderpus are stressed/chased they do go swimming. Seen that before. But normally they'll just be gliding along looking for a hole to slide into.

Ah cool... learn something new every day

it was pretty amazing.. they (DM and friends) were signaling for me to go closer to look at something.. and at first i couldn't see anything.. then the DM waved his hand over the sand, and suddenly the mimic revealed itself. My regulator almost came out of my mouth from surprise :bsmilie:

A good sense when the DMs are going to search for mimics is that they'll bring the 'mimic poker'. An extra long poker to get the mimic/wunderpus out of their hole.

No leh, both times they found the mimic in the sand, and no mimic poker either :bsmilie:

Hmmm chance encounter. that's rare. Spotted a few on my own in lembeh and puri jati before. But don't have the patience to wait or the skill to 'coax' it out of the hole.

yeah, both the one in Lembeh and in Minahasa were chance encounters, and both were not in the holes (or maybe it was dug up by time I got there!) :bsmilie:

hi, nope don't have this problem with my DSLR housing, and neither did I have this problem with my previous Ikelite G9 housing. At most, I hear some 'creaking' sounds as the housing adjusts to the pressure.

How deep are we talking about? If its within 'normal' depths, meaning anything above 40m or so, this shouldn't happen. Maybe take the housing back to whoever you bought it from and ask them to check it out

Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed them :)

*wolf whistles*

great photos siah!! think i'll have to get tips from you now! :bsmilie:

Although, still sore that your DM got the mimics and mine didn't

Great set bro !

Hhahah.. no lar, I still have to learn from you lah, Jeli! :bsmilie:

ryan: sorry, I'm not very good with names.. but I do remember my DMs were Alis (Alice) and Luther. There was a new guy for the last 2 days, but can't remember his name. He didn't talk much
