De Gea thankful for crowd reaction

David De Gea admits he was taken aback by the vociferous reaction to his extraordinary performance against Everton on Sunday.

The Spaniard's name was chanted with gusto by the appreciative Old Trafford audience as he earned three vital points with a world-class save to deny Bryan Oviedo in the closing stages. De Gea also made two fine stops to frustrate Leon Osman and kept out Leighton Baines' penalty, the first spot-kick missed by the full-back in his 15th attempt in the Barclays Premier League.

"It was one of the best games of my career for Manchester United and I'm really happy with the saves, the win and for the team as well," he explained to MUTV afterwards. "It's difficult to say something about the crowd. When they sing your name like this, it is unbelievable.

"I watched his [Baines] penalties before the game but you have to be lucky sometimes. I decided to go to my right and saved the penalty. I think all the saves are important for the goalkeepers to win the games but I think the back four played really, really well. Paddy [McNair] is very young but he's really calm, good with the ball and strong. I think, with Marcos [Rojo], they are really good defenders.

"I think it's a vital three points, really important points for the team to get into the top four. We need to go with the national teams but we'll come back and look forward."

Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao scored the goals to overcome the Toffees' response through Steven Naismith's header, and De Gea praised both for the way they have settled into the team. "When we sign a player like Di Maria, the team feels better with him in front of you. It's different. He's a top player and will score many goals. I hope it's one of many goals for Falcao. He has goals in his veins and a killer instinct. Hopefully, he'll score a lot more."

Radamel Falcao admits he wants to stay at Manchester United for 'many years' after scoring first goal against Everton

-Radamel Falcao scored his first goal for Manchester in their 2-1 win against Everton at Old Trafford
-The Colombian striker admitted afterwards that he wants to stay at the club for 'many years' as his family are happy
-Falcao has agreed personal terms ahead of a potential £43million permanent move next summer
-His goal against the Toffees moved United into the Premier League's top four for the first time this season

Radamel Falcao scored his first goal in English football and then spelled out his desire to remain at Manchester United beyond the end of the season.
Falcao started repaying some of the money United have invested in him by scoring the winner in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Everton at Old Trafford.
The Colombian, who also cleared a Phil Jagielka off the line in the second half, is on loan from Monaco until the end of the season.

United will have to stump up £43million if they want to sign him permanently next summer and the Colombian hopes they do.
'Me and my family are happy here, and we would like to stay for many years at Manchester United,' Falcao told MUTV.
Falcao's strike lifted United into the top four for the first time this season and secured their second consecutive win following the 2-1 victory over West Ham.

David de Gea's start to life at Manchester United was 'horrendous'... forced to change his lifestyle and made to drink protein shakes to bulk up, the Spaniard has arrived

David de Gea made a string of fine saves during Man United's 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday
Spanish stopper endured 'horrendous' first six months at Old Trafford
De Gea would sleep two or three times a day and eat late at night
Red Devils forced goalkeeper into serious lifestyle changes
Performance against Everton marked De Gea's arrival as one of the best goalkeepers in the world

Not long after full-time on Sunday and David de Gea has already posted photographs of his stellar performance against Everton on his Instagram page. By this morning, they had been viewed and 'liked' by almost 70,000 people.
Pretty much one for every United fan inside Old Trafford on Sunday, the ripples of De Gea's efforts nevertheless spread much further than the boundaries of Stretford, Manchester. This was perhaps that day when De Gea confirmed his arrival as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
It has been some journey, too.

De Gea spoke in recent days of his work with new United goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek.
'He is one of the best coaches I have ever seen,' said De Gea.
'It's a new system. He knows everything about positioning and what I should do with my feet.'
Three years ago, however, the work United were trying to get in to their new arrival from Atletico Madrid was different, certainly more basic.
'His first six months were horrendous,' said former United goalkeeping coach Eric Steele in an interview with the United We Stand fanzine.
'We worked with him on and off the field to make him more powerful. We changed his lifestyle.

After half a month of unexpected results at international games its back to BPL week ... finally ... but then we will not be playing till monday on the 20th oct travelling to WBA ...

Debate: United's next five games

The wait for Manchester United's return to action following the international break – albeit extended due to a Monday-night trip to West Bromwich Albion – is almost over and with it comes a potentially crucial period for the Reds to assert some authority on this Barclays Premier League campaign.

The extra day or two could prove beneficial to Louis van Gaal in his preparations for the trip to the Hawthorns as the full squad assembles on Friday at the Aon Training Complex, with the last of the international Reds returning from various far-flung destinations around the world.

Before the break in play for globe-trotting friendlies and Euro 2016 qualifiers, van Gaal's men claimed a top-four spot qualifiers with consecutive wins over West Ham and Everton, and the target now is to stay there through a run of testing matches that could give the clearest indication yet as to the burgeoning progress of the Dutchman's new-look United team.

The fixture list has paired the Reds with West Brom, Chelsea, Manchester City, Crystal Palace and Arsenal for the remainder of October and deep into November. Former United defender Gary Neville described it as "an exciting time" and added: "It's going to be an important few weeks. [Against] West Brom, Chelsea and City we'll find out exactly [the level] the team is at this season."

Jose Mourinho's runaway league leaders provide arguably the sternest test of the lot when they visit Old Trafford, while away clashes with City and Arsenal ensure this spell will challenge the Reds to the full.

Next 5 games

Are we able to claim max points for the next 5 games?

Giggs says Reds must hit top form

Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs says the Reds must take heart from recent performances and results and wants the team to continue edging towards the peak of their powers during the most testing part of the season so far.

Two hard-fought wins over West Ham and Everton in the last couple of weeks have lifted the Reds to fourth in the table. West Brom are next up on Monday night at The Hawthorns, before a home meeting with Chelsea and away trips to Manchester City and Arsenal in the space of a month during October and November.

Giggs says there have been promising signs of late on the pitch, but maintains that the squad will need to be as close to top gear as possible for the upcoming challenges.

"These are the games you want to be involved in and play in. And they will be a test," he told ManUtd.com at the HMV Football Extravaganza earlier this week.

"Chelsea have probably been the standout team so far with City just behind them and we want to be up there testing ourselves against those teams. We feel that we do belong up there but we perhaps haven't shown it consistently this season.

"We've shown glimpses over the last few weeks and hopefully we'll have a lot of players coming back for those games. The form has slowly begun to get better and better and we want to hit form going into those matches."

Giggs is working hard with Louis van Gaal and the rest of the coaching staff to ensure the best possible preparation for the players ahead of the imminent clashes. And while nothing can replace the buzz of being involved in them as a player, Giggs insists he is loving his new career as van Gaal's assistant.

"It's a great experience for me to work under such a top manager who has such a good track record," he added. "I'm really enjoying it and the manager has been really good with me.

"I'm doing as much as I can to make sure we're in form and ready for each game. A lot of work goes into that and we're slowly seeing the benefits of it."

Hitting Top form

Think it should be about time we hit top gear soon.

Dani Alves has ALREADY agreed to join Man Utd on a free transfer next season

DANI ALVES has an agreement with Manchester United that will see him move to England at the end of the season.

Alves is in the final year of his deal at Barcelona and has not been offered fresh terms at the Camp Nou.

The player's agent said this week that they would consider all options before making a decision in December or January.

But FIFA agent Francois Gallardo claims that a deal has already been agreed that will see Alves move to Old Trafford.

Speaking to Spanish television show Neox, Gallardo said: "The player will leave Barcelona next season. He has signed a preliminary agreement with Manchester United."

The news is sure to come as a blow to both Chelsea and Liverpool who both had hopes of signing the Brazilian on a free transfer.

Earlier this week, Alves' agent Dinorah Santana said: "If the club [Barcelona] wanted to renew Alves they would have done it already. I would not do things they way they have.

"We will leave the suitors until December or January... then we'll decide who to marry."

Pep Guardiola's hatred of tiki-taka and Manchester United dream

The Catalan coach received a raft of job offers during his year-long sabbatical after leaving Barcelona. His main suitors were Chelsea, Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
The 43-year-old had already revealed he was impressed with the set-up at Bayern, after visiting the Allianz Arena with Barcelona for a pre-season tournament in 2011.
But a trip to another of Europe's big clubs - Manchester United - also left a lasting impression on him.
On 4 May 2011 - the day after Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-1 on aggregate in the Champions League semi-finals - Guardiola and his trusted confidante Manel Estiarte travelled to Old Trafford to watch their next opponents in action.
As the pair sat together in the stands, watching Sir Alex Ferguson's team beat Schalke 4-1 (6-1 on aggregate), Guardiola turned to his friend and said: "I like this atmosphere. I could see myself coaching here one day."

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says it is too early to judge his tenure at the club as the players are still adapting to his playing philosophy.

The Dutchman took charge in the summer and, after a mixed start, has taken them into the top four in the Premier League for the first time in over a year.

They travel to West Brom on Monday looking for their third league win in a row.

Finally tonight our 3rd straight win after such along break...

WEST BROM V UNITED
21 October, 2014 3:00:00 am

If everything goes well, we should be able to tame West Brom away. Our first team has begun to settle down better now. GO MU GO GO GO and bring home the 3 points. No sweat.

2-2 not a good result even though we fight back. Di Maria was injured, how bad is him ? We need him the most leh =(

I watched the game, I think the boys played well, the passing and running was sharp but have to contend with a bus being parked in front of WBA's goal.

But that's the way things are, just passing the ball gets you no where, need more creativity. Hope things can only get better.

We need more killer instinct and someone to finish off. Simply not enough goals and let in too many per game. Catching Chelsea 10 points ahead now is an enormous call considering Chelsea players got to literally stop playing and don't win 4 games in a row, loses 3 and 1 draw. Its best we aim for 2nd place so that the pressure is not so great. IMO the most important is to return to Champions League immediately.

Think there isn't anything worst then our lost to MK Dons ... from then on we can only get better ... can't wait for sunday's game although we have to hit our top gear ... hopefully Di maria will be back...

Think so too as long as we get back to CL we should be able to draw more top class players in to the team!
