OSLO (Norway) - OLE Gunnar Solskjaer ended a 14-year association with Manchester United on Tuesday when he agreed to move back to his home country as coach of Norwegian club Molde.

The 37-year-old Solskjaer, who scored United's injury-time winner in the 1999 Champions League final, signed a contract with a yearly salary of 2.4 million Norwegian kroner (S$529,300), plus marketing income.

Solskjaer is quitting his job as coach of United's reserves and will begin his new job Jan 10. Solskjaer, who has three children, said family reasons were the main factor in his decision to return to the club where he played for 18 months before joining United in 1996.

Solskjaer arrived at Old Trafford as a youthful-looking striker and quickly became a fan favorite for his knack of scoring quickly as a substitute - earning the nickname 'the Baby-Faced Assassin.' He scored 128 goals in 367 matches, including one against Bayern Munich in United's 2-1 Champions League final win. The same year, he scored four goals in 10 minutes after coming on a substitute in an 8-1 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest.

He retired to a coaching role in 2007 after failing to recover from a knee injury.

'He's been a fantastic servant, and he's contributed to the development of our young players,' Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said in a statement. 'I think that his career as an outstanding professional footballer gave him a foundation to get into coaching. He's had a great introduction with our reserves and this is the right time for Ole to take up his first managerial position.' -- AP

Solskjaer leaves Man Utd to coach!

Match report.

having watching this morning game, feel tat our team really need to change the style of playing. I observed tat our player like to pass ball to next player with opponent behind. Tis always cause the receiving player to lose ball or release ball fast which in return serve no purpose. The only player who can control ball well under such situation is Berbatov. But he seem like player maker more than striker.. 4 pts gap now.. buck up buck up !!

Sian with the draw but also a good result considering its away and the current state of the squad.

Yet another no show from Berbatov,
The midfield comprising of Carrick and Fletcher lacked steel,
This Villa team had 9 players out through injury and illness and yet cannot beat them,
Beginning to feel that Rooney may be right...:(

Of cause he is right. This team needs to be refreshed. I feel that 1 player from each part of the field should be sold and replaced, 1 striker, 1 midfielder and 1 defender. I think he or Barba, Rio, and Carrick should leave.

Against 9-man, this result actually not so good lah... BUT the best thing is both Chelsea and Arsenal lost!

2-0 is definitely not a good result considering that Wigan were downed to 9 men in the second half and we should have slaughtered them. Lot of missed chances and had we converted a few of them, we would be sitting right on top of the table delegating Che$ski to second position. We had consistently been getting very good results at home against them but this time around even with 9 men we couldn't even demolish them. It speaks so much of the team not playing well especially those 7 draw games otherwise we would be leading the blues with at least 6 points or even more. Lets hope we click into gear by Christmas otherwise going into the new year it would be even more difficult to keep the momentum going.

Its a critical result when Arsenal and Chelsea lost.

United is well-known for doing poorly for the 1st half of the season, then all guns blazing after that. Just gotta look back at titles United won. They were always in 2nd or 3rd before Christmas.

Joint top when they are not playing well now, well, i can't wait to see what happens in 2011.

Ya... they normally only wake up during of christmas season! This season is different from others is that although we struggled against some of the teams but we are UNBEATEN UNITED we need to win more matches in the second half.
