Stubbs: We want the win

Everton defender Alan Stubbs has warned United that his side will be going for broke against this weekend as they look to secure UEFA Cup qualification.

The Merseysiders currently sit fifth in the table, occupying the first of three berths which will ensure European football next term.

Following last weekend's defeat at West Ham, and with Bolton, Reading, Portsmouth and Tottenham all in hot pursuit, Stubbs is adamant that Everton will go all out for victory at Goodison Park.

"Every home game we expect to win it," Stubbs told the official Everton website. "Whether it is against the top or against the bottom."

"We had a few chances to get back into the game at West Ham and that makes it more disappointing - but it is a great game for us now.

"We have got two home games left and I think two wins will do it. Maybe even four points. It's at that stage of the season that teams are dropping points."

Meanwhile, Toffees boss Moyes admits star striker Andy Johnson faces a race against time to be fit for United's visit, after spraining his ankle in last weekend's defeat at Upton Park.

"We will just have to wait and see,” said Moyes. “We will see how he goes. We missed AJ when he went off on Saturday because he runs and stretches the defence. He is sharp with it and it does affect us when he is not there. We have got to find a different way of doing things."

Man Utd ponder appeal after Rome fine

Manchester United and Roma are considering whether to appeal the fines handed down by UEFA for last month's crowd trouble in Italy.

United were fined £14,500 and Roma £31,000 for the problems during their Champions League quarter-final, first leg at the Stadio Olimpico.

Fans of both clubs threw missiles at each other and also clashed with Italian police, who were heavily criticised for their behaviour by United supporters following the incident in Rome's Stadio Olimpico.

Both clubs have three days in which to appeal after receipt of the written grounds for the decision.

Meanwhile, United confirmed on Wednesday supporters are facing ticket price rises of up to 14% next season.

The Old Trafford outfit have released details of prices for the 2007-08 campaign, which could yet see them defending the treble.

While a range of measures have been introduced to effectively cut the cost of concessionary tickets, meaning an adult with two children will pay less next season than they did this, full price tickets have risen sharply.

The biggest increases are in the lower tiers of the North and South Stands, which will rise from £665 to £722, while the most expensive seats in the stadium are the upper tier of both stands, which rise over 12% to £836.

In addition, all season ticket holders not currently a member of the club's automatic cup scheme, which forces fans to buy tickets for cup games whether they intend to watch the game or not, will be required to join.

Junior tickets in the Family Stand will be frozen at £190, while all junior tickets in other sections of the stadium will be £10, a 48.7% reduction.

Over 65s will pay £20 or half the cost of an adult ticket in the appropriate section of the stadium, whichever is the lower.

Chairman of the Independent Manchester United Supporters' Association (IMUSA), Mark Longden, blasted the price hike, insisting there is 'absolutely no justification' for it.

He said: 'Clearly, it flies in the face of the thinking all over the country, from Bolton to the Emirates (Arsenal's stadium).

'They have all frozen prices and in some cases reduced them.'

A spokesman for the Glazer family said: 'Prices for Old Trafford, when compared to other leading clubs' grounds, still represent very good value for money, supported by the exceptionally high quality of the football on offer.'

United Ready To Play The Vid

"Nemanja Vidic could make a shock Manchester United return in Milan next week. The centre-back has not played since injuring a shoulder on March 31 but has recovered quicker than expected. This week Vidic, 25, started proper training and tested the shoulder with physical challenges. He had no problems and manager Alex Ferguson is considering putting him into the side next week. Ferguson is also hoping to bring back Rio Ferdinand after he suffered a recurrence of his groin injury in last Saturday’s 1-1 home draw against Middlesbrough. United are desperate for their big two to return after the defensive chaos against Milan on Tuesday. United eventually won 3-2 with two Wayne Rooney goals, one in injury time. But they suffered another defensive blow with Patrice Evra receiving a second yellow card in the knockout stages. He will now be suspended for the return, leaving Wes Brown, Gabriel Heinze and John O’Shea the only recognised defenders."

yah man, have to be cautious, if they rush him back and he injured again then our defence die liao.

I think can rush him back as our defence is already dead and yet, still managed to compete. Dun forget, Evra is suspended for the return leg. Without him, Man Utd only have 3 defenders and have to play Fletcher at right back. Thats not ideal as he have excellent games in the defensive midfield role against Roma and Milan. He kept Totti quiet and in the 2nd half against Milan, he shackled Kaka and Prilo.

Ronaldo and Mourinho engage in war of words
Cristiano Ronaldo thinks Jose Mourinho 'doesn't know how to admit his own failures' after the Chelsea manager's controversial comments about penalties.

Mourinho claimed last Sunday that 'new laws' on spot-kicks applied to Manchester United but not to Chelsea, after his side were denied a penalty in the goalless draw at Newcastle.

A day earlier United had been fortunate not to concede a late penalty against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.

'We all know how he is,' Ronaldo was reported to have told Portuguese TV. 'He always has to say something when he is not happy.'

The PFA player and young player of the year added: 'Jose Mourinho doesn't know how to admit his own failures.'
Mourinho responded by reportedly telling RTP TV that Ronaldo will 'never reach the level that he wants to reach' unless he accepts 'facts'.
He is reported to have said: 'A player who wants to be the best one of the world, and he already may be, should have the uprightness and the sufficient maturity to verify that against facts there are not arguments.
'If he says that it is a lie that Manchester United have conceded some penalties this season which have not been awarded against them, he is lying.

'And if he lies he will never reach the level that he wants to reach.'
United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz was also quoted as saying: 'Mourinho has his own style, he always tries to divert everyone's attention to the points which are convenient for him.

'These are his tactics and that's the way he is.'

I do think its a risk worth taking as it will be tough at San Siro need a more reconise defender to take on the likes of Prilo! So that we can go all out to attack them without to worry to much of conceding at the back!

San Siro semi-final a sell out

AC Milan have announced the return leg of their Champions League semi-final against Manchester United at the San Siro on May 2 has sold out.

A crowd of 67,500 will watch the clash between two of Europe's top sides with the Rossoneri looking to overturn a 3-2 deficit from the match at Old Trafford on Tuesday to claim a place in the final.

Meanwhile, Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti will rest tough-tackling midfielder Gennaro Gattuso and captain Paolo Maldini for his side's Serie A meeting with Torino on Saturday with the United match in mind.

Gattuso is struggling with a foot injury while Maldini is doubtful with a knee problem, but both players are expected to be fit in time for the semi-final second leg.

'I will do everything I can to be available for Wednesday's encounter,' said veteran defender Maldini. 'I believe we have a chance to progress to the final.'

Ancelotti defends Dida

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has defended Dida after the Brazilian goalkeeper came under fire for his performance in the Champions League defeat against Manchester United.

Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport rated the Brazilian as the worst player in Milan's line-up following their 3-2 loss at Old Trafford.

However, Ancelotti has come out in support of his first-choice goalkeeper.

'Dida made some great saves,' he said. 'The first goal wasn't an easy save because Cristiano Ronaldo was in front of him.

'Perhaps he should have covered the near post in Manchester's third goal.'

Dida received a mark of 4.5 out of 10 by Gazzetta and was considered the main reason why the Rossoneri lost their semi-final first leg. 'He was uncertain from start to finish. He opened the way to Manchester's first goal and made it easier for the Red Devils to score the third of the evening,' read Gazzetta's evaluation of Dida.

The 33-year-old has been inconsistent in the past two seasons but the club are still hoping he can rediscover the form which earned him the best goalkeeper award in the 2003-04 Serie A campaign.

Dida, who last month signed a contract extension with the Rossoneri until 2010, only returned to play on Tuesday after two weeks on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.

Kaka says Milan are on course for Athens

Playmaker Kaka believes AC Milan are on course to reach the Champions League final despite losing 3-2 to Manchester United in the first leg of their semi-final.

The Brazilian international scored twice at Old Trafford to give Milan a 2-1 interval lead but the Premier League leaders fought back with two second-half goals by Wayne Rooney, the second in stoppage time.

'It's a very bitter result that gives us little margin for error but I'm convinced Milan can go through,' Kaka told Wednesday's La Gazzetta dello Sport.

'After the 2-2 draw (in the quarter-final first leg) with Bayern Munich we had to get a great result away from home. Now we have to win but we've got the advantage of playing at home.

'We will have to play like United did against us. We will have to show we've got great personality and enormous energy because we face a real battle.'

Milan defender Massimo Oddo rued his side's failure to convert a couple of chances early in the second half.

'We were stupid. We played a great first half and their second goal was fine but then we missed several opportunities to make it 3-1,' he said.

Milan may be without two important players in the return leg.

A recurrence of an old knee injury forced captain Paolo Maldini to sit out the second half at United while midfielder Gennaro Gattuso limped off in the 53rd minute with a sore foot.

'The knee swelled up and the pain became unbearable. It will be difficult to recover for the return leg,' said Maldini.

'It will be a difficult match for Milan. We didn't deserve to lose at Old Trafford but the English side put in a fantastic performance. They fought right to the limit and showed great self-belief. We will have to follow their example.'

Gattuso battling to be back for return leg

AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso faces a battle against the clock to recover for next week's Champions League semi-final return leg against Manchester United.

The former Glasgow Rangers star sustained a foot injury during last night's 3-2 first-leg defeat at Old Trafford.

Gattuso was forced to leave the pitch early in the second half and is doubtful for next Wednesday's second leg in Milan.

'I will do everything I can to play at the San Siro,' said Gattuso.

Wayne Rooney's stoppage-time strike gave Sir Alex Ferguson's outfit the edge in the tie but Gattuso is confident his side can still make it to the final.

'This result burns,' admitted Gattuso. 'We are really angry.

'But do not fear because in the return leg we still have a chance.

'At Old Trafford, we have proved to be a great team and we shouldn't fear Manchester.

'It's going to be a difficult encounter but it would have been the same had the result finished 2-2.'

Brazil midfielder Kaka, whose two goals had given the Rossoneri a 2-1 half-time lead after Cristiano Ronaldo had opened the scoring for the hosts, believes Milan will have their say in a week's time.

'It is a sour defeat,' admitted Kaka.

'But now we hope that playing in front of our home fans will help us to reach the final.

'We have made mistakes in this game, especially in the second half, and we must correct them. Our only thoughts now are on the return leg.'
