We are in contention for the 3 titles. Lets hope that we repeat what the team did in 1999 i.e. won the treble but even if u can't capture the 3 trophies, at least we should win two titles. My hope is the EPL and CL. At least we can shut the mouth of Moanrinho and the Pool fans who are already counting their chicken before they are hatched by saying that they will meet AC Milan in the fan and thrash them.:devil:

i felt hilarious that the pool fans are already thinking that they will win the CL , com'on man

u guys are 3 pts ahead with so few games to go, against weaker teams to boot. just a draw at chelsea will be enough to seal the title IMHO.

ron and roon are playing well enough to paper over whatever defensive frailties for now.

Reds and Roma fined by UEFA

UEFA have fined United 21,300 euros following crowd disturbances at the UEFA Champions League match in Rome on 4 April. Their hosts, AS Roma, have been fined 47,700 euros.

The much-publicised skirmishes at the Stadio Olimpico involving fans, stewards and police have led to the following statement being posted on UEFA.com this (Wednesday) evening:

"The UEFA Control & Disciplinary Body have today taken action after fans of both clubs lit fireworks and threw missiles during the game at the Stadio Olimpico, as well as being involved in general crowd disturbances.

"Roma, who won the game 2-1 before a 7-1 defeat in the Manchester return, have been fined CHF75,000 (€47,700) while United will have to pay CHF35,000 (€21,300).

"Both clubs have three days in which to appeal after receipt of the written grounds for the decision."

Carrick feeling confident

Reds midfielder Michael Carrick feels United are more than capable of finishing the job against AC Milan next week and securing a place in the Champions League final.

At Old Trafford on Tuesday in the first leg, United fell 2-1 behind after two Kaka strikes cancelled out an early lead for the Reds when Dida punched into his own net.

But a brace from Wayne Rooney, including a well-taken winner in the last minute, means the balance of the tie tipped back in United's favour.

"We are not getting carried away but we know we're good enough to go away from home and win," said a confident Carrick afterwards.

"We will not be going over there to defend as such," he added. "We're not a team that can do that - we haven't got the players. We want to attack and play good football and it's going to be a good game."

While the pre-match talk centred around the brilliance of Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo, it was Wayne Rooney who proved that he too can change a match with a moment of magic.

"What can you say, the last finish was brilliant," said Carrick of Rooney's second, an early shot that proved too good for Dida to reach at his near post.

"He could see the gap and to put it away was brilliant for us," continued Carrick. "He is a world-class player already and he is still young. I am sure there is more to come from him. He more than did his job."

Evra's card forces reshuffle.

Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping one defender proves his fitness as another bows out ahead of next week's crucial trip to Milan.

Patrice Evra's booking for dissent in the first leg will again limit the manager's options when he selects the back four. And if Rio Ferdinand's groin injury fails to mend in time, Sir Alex will be forced to deploy Darren Fletcher out of position again - less than ideal, considering the Scot's outstanding midfield performances against Roma and Milan at Old Trafford.

"We're going to try hard to get Rio Ferdinand fit, there is some improvement," says Sir Alex.

"But I'm anticipating I'll have to play Darren Fletcher at right-back, John O'Shea at centre-back and move Gaby to left-back."

Milan also have concerns for the second leg, following the first leg substitutions of veteran Paolo Maldini at half-time and midfield dynamo Gennaro Gattuso eight minutes later.

Gattuso says: "I was really sorry I had to come off. But I'll do everything I can to play at the San Siro."

Whatever the line-ups, Sir Alex expects another exciting contest in Italy - the same country where United sealed a place in their last Champions League final, in 1999.

"It should be a fantastic game," says Sir Alex. "Obviously it's not going to be easy. I think we can score, they have to score obviously. It'll not be easy but I just think we have a great chance.

"The last time we played there (Milan, 2005) it was an open match. We had four chances including a great one for Van Nistelrooy, when he blasted over from five yards, before they'd had a shot at goal. So anything's possible."

Eight-time Premiership winner Ryan Giggs on what it takes to crossing the finishing line in first place...

It's not always possible to play great football every week, so not playing well and winning can make all the difference, especially at this stage of the season. We've done it a few times this season and it's what we used to do when we were winning titles.

There is a lot of pressure come April and May, and the more tense it gets the less likely you are to have high-scoring wins.

All the matches are going to be tight and you need to try and keep your nerve because there will be periods in games where it looks like you might not pick up the result you need. It's a matter of keeping clam and staying positive.

At this stage of the run-in, obviously you need to perform, but that can mean 'backs-to-the-wall' defending to stay in a game or protect a lead, or creating chances to win it with our attacking football.

One thing I've learned down the years is to block out all the hyge that surrounds the title race. You have to be mentally strong and not take in what opposition managers and players say or what journalists are writing in the newspapers.

It's part of football that becomes easier to deal with the older and more experienced you get. As one of the senior players in the squad I try and pass that on to the younger lads if I can.

But the whole set-up here is excellent, the manager and the coaching staff know exactly how to prepare you for the crucial games. It's really a case of staying focused - not on what other teams can do to lose the title, but what we can do to win it.

Sir Alex: It's time to be great

Sir Alex says United's dominance at Sunday evening's PFA awards will count for nothing if the Reds fail to land any silverware this season.

Eight United players – Edwin van der Sar, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo – were named in the PFA's Team of the Year, while Ronaldo scooped the Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year double for the first time in 30 years.

"It was a great night for the boy [Ronaldo] and a great night for the club," Sir Alex told Manchester United Radio.

"From what I gather, a very high proportion of the votes went to Ronaldo, which is really saying something when you consider the talent of [second-placed] Didier Drogba."

But Sir Alex urged his team not to get carried away by the accolades and reminded them the important trophies are still up for grabs.

"These awards only tell you what's been happening up until February [when votes were cast]. What we have to do now is be great in April and May. That's the time to be great.

"If the players don't smell the scent of something big in their lives now then they never will. It's a great opportunity for them."

Butt's backing for Reds

Ex-Red Nicky Butt is backing United to win back-to-back titles providing they can nudge themselves over the finishing line ahead of Chelsea this season.

The Newcastle midfielder claimed six Championship winners' medals during his Old Trafford career and he went some way to aiding United's current title bid after he and his Toon Army team-mates held Jose Mourinho's men to a goalless draw last weekend.

Butt believes United, with a current three-point advantage at the Premiership's summit, would be popular winners among neutrals and he's backing his former team to stand firm for the remainder of the campaign.

"I really hope they win it and I genuinely think they will," he insisted. "And I'm sure they will get it again next season if they win this time.

"United have been playing very attractive football this year. All the players are comfortable on the ball and they have individuals who can change the course of a game in a splitsecond. It's easier on the eye but you can't take anything away from Chelsea.

"The fact that it seems the public generally want United to pip Chelsea to the title this season is a massive backhanded compliment to Chelsea.

"If everyone hates you and no one wants you to win then you are obviously doing something right. It just goes with the territory. That's what we had when I was at Old Trafford."
