Neville out for three weeks:

Gary Neville is likely to be out for three weeks after damaging his ankle ligaments against Bolton on Saturday.

The Reds skipper lasted less than ten minutes of the match after rolling his ankle in a challenge with Bolton midfielder Gary Speed.

"Gary Neville has ligament damage and he'll be out for three weeks, I feel," said the boss.

"It's a blow, there's no question about that. Wes Brown will continue now. I was actually going to leave Gary out on Monday to be honest, but Wes will definitely play now."

Wes Brown, who came on and did so well in Neville's place, is now likely to deputise for the Premiership visit of Blackburn on 31 March and the Champions League quarter final first leg against Roma at Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday 4 April.

If the initial three-week prognosis turns out to be accurate then Neville could return for the Premiership clash with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Sir Alex: We're ready for Boro

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will have to lift his battle weary players tonight as the Reds face a second match in three days at Old Trafford.

Middlesbrough visit Old Trafford to decide who will go on to meet Watford in the FA Cup semi finals.

A 2-2 draw at the Riverside brought a replay that United were keen to avoid. But Sir Alex says his players can handle to physical demands and was unflustered by Gareth Southgate resting several key players at the weekend.

"It doesn't worry me if they rested players," he said. "I have the players who can handle playing on Saturday and Monday."

However, Sir Alex will not want the tie to go to extra time and penalties and hopes that home advantage plays a crucial role.

"It's not ideal to have this replay," he added. "No-one is saying anyone wanted it, but we have got it and we have to get on with it.

"I always say, if you get a home draw in the FA Cup you are delighted. We have earned that opportunity and hopefully we can use home advantage."

Wes dreaming of Wembley:

Reds defender Wes Brown wants to help take United a step closer to playing in the first FA Cup final at the new Wembley stadium with victory of Middlesbrough at Old Trafford tonight.

The 26-year-old replaced Gary Neville during Saturday’s 4-1 win over Bolton after the Reds skipper suffered ankle ligament damage, and he is set to deputise again at right-back in the quarter final replay.

A semi final clash with Premiership strugglers Watford awaits the winner of the tie, which will go to extra time and penalties if necessary. And the potential to play at the new national stadium is an enticing incentive.

“It would be fantastic to play in the first FA Cup final at the new Wembley, we’re determined to get there,” Wes tells United Review.

A second match in three days at Old Trafford will be physically demanding, but the Longsight-born defender is confident United have the strength in depth to cope. “It always gets quite tiring at this stage of the season," he added. "But the manager has a big squad of players to call upon and there are people like myself who can come in and do a job for the team.

“It was a tough match at the Riverside. They’ve done well against us in recent matches and they made it hard for us again. But we did really well to get back into the game and we’re glad to still be in the cup.”

Boro boss Gareth Southgate rested Mark Viduka and Jonathan Woodgate for their weekend defeat to Manchester City, indicating how seriously they are taking the tie. But Wes believes home advantage could tip the balance in United’s favour.

“We’ve been playing very well at home,” he added. “A start like we had in the replay at Reading would be excellent. An early goal would certainly settle any nerves and hopefully set us on the way to victory.”
