Park: Cartilage op confirmed

United have confirmed that Ji-sung Park has had a "complicated cartilage operation" and will consequently not play again until next season.

The club issued the following statement on Saturday morning:

"Ji-sung Park has had a complicated cartilage operation that required an expert in the field.

"He will be out for the rest of the season and we will assess the situation in August."

Park is in the care of world-renowned knee specialist Dr Richard Steadman in America. Dr Steadman's previous patients include Ruud van Nistelrooy and Michael Owen.

Sir Alex said on Friday: "We have not been able to get to the bottom of the injury. He was initially examined by our own physios but with these situations, if you have complications you send the player to a specialist - the best in the world.

"We either had to operate or let nature take its course. Because there was no clear reason for the injury, we knew it was bad enough for us to be concerned, which is why he has gone to America. Unfortunately, it puts an end to his season."

Park has not played since sustaining the injury during the March win over Blackburn.

so complicated! Hope he recover soon!

Milan Watch: Key trio absent

AC Milan were missing three key players on Saturday but still returned to winning ways, triumphing 1-0 at Torino in Serie A.

Rossoneri coach Carlo Ancelotti kept Kaka, scorer of two away goals against United, on the bench but midfielder Gennaro Gattuso and defender Paolo Maldini were not in the Milan 18 (seven substitutes are permitted in Italy) following their injuries at Old Trafford.

In fact, only six of the side which started the Champions League semi-final in Manchester kicked off in Turin - full-backs Oddo and Jankulovski were also absent.

Clarence Seedorf, so impressive in Milan's midfield at Old Trafford, scored the only goal of the Torino game after 26 minutes. The result saw the Rossoneri move into third place behind Roma and their local rivals Inter, who wrapped up the Italian title last weekend.

Gattuso fit for United, Maldini doubts remain

Italy World Cup-winning midfielder Gennaro Gattuso should be available for AC Milan's Champions League semi-final return match with Manchester United on Wednesday - but veteran defender Paolo Maldini is a possible absentee.

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti revealed the team news after the 1-0 win at Torino yesterday - a game in which neither Maldini nor Gattuso featured.

'The only player in doubt today is Maldini but we still have four days to get him fit,' said Ancelotti in remarks reported by www.gazzetta.it.

'Gattuso will definitely be available, however.'

Both men picked up injuries in the first leg in Manchester, won 3-2 by United.

Ancelotti was impressed by United's form which yesterday took them closer to regaining the Premiership title with a 4-2 win over Everton on a day when Chelsea drew 2-2 with Bolton.

'They (United) are doing well in the championship and have extended their lead over Chelsea so they will have less pressure than they would have had with a bad result,' said Ancelotti.

'But a Champions League semi-final is something special. It will be a game where we have to play at our best without losing concentration but with the right level of intensity and serenity.

'If we play like we did for an hour at Old Trafford we can do it,' said Ancelotti whose team led 2-1 in the first leg before two second-half Wayne Rooney goals gave United the win.

Ancelotti hails Rooney and Ronaldo

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti admits Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo have improved considerably since the 2005 meetings with Manchester United in the Champions League.

Next Wednesday AC Milan will look to overturn United's 3-2 first-leg lead when they play their second-leg Champions League semi-final with United at the San Siro.

The Italian side's coach believes Ronaldo and Rooney have made giant strides since Milan eliminated United from the 2005 competition.

Ancelotti said: 'Manchester United are clearly better than they were two years ago and are so much stronger up front, Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo are more experienced and more efficient.

'Before the game I would have settled for a 3-2 defeat (at Old Trafford) which is no bad result but there remains a little regret at how the result came about.'

Milan had led 2-1 with goals from Kaka after Cristiano Ronaldo had given United the lead.

Two goals from Rooney including a last-gasp winner then turned the match around.

Ancelotti claimed, however, that his midfield was as good as any in the world with Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo, Massimo Ambrosini and Clarence Seedorf all impressing.

Asked about Gattuso, Ancelotti said: 'I would not change him or our whole midfield for any other team. They are all players who have great maturity.'

Ancelotti believes English football can teach a lot to Italy in terms of atmosphere.

Asked if he would like to coach in England, the coach said: 'I don't think so. I would rule nothing out but what I would really like to see is a good atmosphere in Italy like there is in English football.'

Ancelotti compared his 25-year-old playmaker Kaka favourably to Ronaldo and even Zinedine Zidane, whom he coached at Juventus.

The coach said: 'He (Kaka) must show on Wednesday he is the best - Cristiano Ronaldo shows great skill at high speed but what makes Kaka unique is how efficient he is.

'My main criticism of Zidane was that he did not always convert his talent into goals, maybe that's the difference. Zidane was superb but Kaka gets more goals.'

Ancelotti revealed he will rest many top players for this weekend's Serie A game with Torino in order to keep them fresh for Wednesday's return with United.

Hey Guys check this out:

Angry Milan fan puts keeper Dida up for sale

ROME, April 27 (Reuters) - An angry AC Milan fan put Brazil goalkeeper Dida up for sale on the internet ahead of next week's Champions League semi-final return with Manchester United.

The 33-year-old, who joined Milan in 2000, was a hero after the shootout win over Juventus in the 2003 Champions League final but his popularity has slumped after a series of errors.

He was criticised following last week's 3-2 first-leg defeat to United at Old Trafford, when he flapped a Cristiano Ronaldo header into his own net and then left his near post exposed for Wayne Rooney to blast home a stoppage-time winner.

Dida failed to attract great interest on eBay. The price, before the Brazilian international was removed from the auction site on Friday, had reached 71 euros ($96.66) after 25 bids.

This sad man!!! Being put on auction by ur own fan!!!:(

alamak...imagine.... Man Utd vs Sunderland ....... SAF vs RK!

lol...scully they match fix :bsmilie:

SAF will face 3 of his old boys, Mark Hughes's Blackburn, Steve Bruce's Birmingham and Roy Keane's Sunderland. And there is also United old boy Steve Coppel's Reading.

Milan will be very difficult. They have nothing to play for in the league and rested many players. They will be up for it. I think Man Utd will conceed but hopefully the patch up defence can hold out and we can out score them.

yeah,...... i do hope we can score a couple of goals and hopefully the patched up defense hold the fort well...i think in this case, its extremely impt to have at least one of their midfielders help in cutting milan's movement.... i seriously don't see fletcher being able to cut those....

hopefully carrick and scholes can try to compromise...sometimes carrick does, sometimes scholes does....else they'll be so dogtired after that :(

BTW what time is the match .... its on thursday super early morning rite? or was it wednesday

Coming Thursday morning at 2:45am. ;p

Go  GOAL....

Cheers,

I hope Ferdinand and Vidic are fit to play in the second leg against AC Milan. I am more worried about the rest of the players especially the Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs and company. Lethargy may set in especially having played so many matches lately. Since we are so close to the promised land (2nd Treble), hopefully this will spur them on to grind out the desired results.

seems like drinking italian wines prior and during the match is quite directly related to man Utd winning....!!!!

i think u'd better start on some..... and make sure u start drinking a bottle DURING the match :p

i didn't open mine till after 2nd half LOL!

Yeah, I did too but not Italian wine. Drank some cheap Aussie wine - Kangaroo Ridge Merlot (GIANT sales and grabbed a few bottles for leisurely drink) - during the match. Maybe, we should have this motto: "Have wine, will win". :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

This bloody f**ker, MOAN-rinho, now hitting below the belt at Ronaldo among other things:

"It's a game where a kid had some statements not very…not showing maturity and respect, maybe difficult childhood, no education, maybe the consequence of that," he said in the Daily Mail.................

http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=464014&CPID=8&clid=1&lid=&title=Jose+hits+back+at+Ronaldo

It seems that he has an axe to grind with SAF, Bernitez, Wenger, etc. and the referees and made alot of nonsensical comments lately. I agreed with what Tohari Paijan said in Sunday's New Paper on his analysis on the Chelsea vs Bolton match. He said among other things:

"To me, it was a sign of him cracking under pressure. It showed that he was getting desperate. Perhaps this is due to the fact that he is not used to playing catch-up".

I just hope we win the EPL title this weekend and watch how his face look as black as charcoal. Sore loser, MOAN-rinho!

I think he is a moaning hole. He moan and moan like Ronaldo, SAF, Benitaz, Wenger and the refs have been gang raping him. :bsmilie:

I think Ronaldo and Rooney should be up for it, afterall they are young. But the rest of the squad like Scholes and Giggs will really need ample rest. The good thing is they can afford to play counter-attack but I don't advocate really sitting back and soaking the pressure that will surely lead to doom. GOGOGO !!!

The best form of defence is attack. In order to cover up for your defensive deficiency, attack more and score more goals. This will make up for any goals conceded. But, with Ferdinand and Vidic coming back for the 2nd leg of the semi-final match against AC Milan, the defence shouldn't be much of a concern anymore. The problem would be whether the midfielders and strikers are able to drag and perk up their tired bodies to create and score more goals to qualify for the final.

Yes I hope SAF will go for the attacking option instead of the 'european wait and see how then attack'.

i think it will be a 4-5-1 as Milan got 2 defensive midfielders in Gatusso and Seedorf. Fletcher as the destroyer supported by Carrick and the attacking trio of Scholes, Ronaldo and Giggs. Rooney can be lone striker and he seem to be able to cope. He is on fire and hope he continues his rampage against the Italians.

Defence is still a mystery! Inzaghi.....basket this old fox is still dangerous after all these years!

if i'm SAF>..i'll also play this formation....4-5-1, but i think fletcher thends to like to go front........ i'm thinking if its good to take a gamble....unleash ronaldo just b4 1/2 time........

he's fast and pacey..... and hopefully the italians would have 1/2 the strength then.... then again...its quite a gamble....

if the midfield can stave off the attack, inzagi or not oso wont affect that much....

mainthing is everybody has to help cover...but just don't do a evra on Heinze ....(did u guys realised that for the everton match, he did the same thing again? so gan cheong, his eyes glued to the ball, never see bakebeans.........)

If we can score the first goal then the pressure will be on the Italians. SAF is keeping his cards close to his heart until the match day. U will never know what he has in mind especially if our two defenders are back. He will then have better options with O Shea and Fletcher at his disposal.

Boss undecided over Reds pair:
Sir Alex Ferguson admits he is undecided over whether or not to throw Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic straight back into action against AC Milan on Wednesday night.

The Reds' first choise defensive pairing are fit again and flew out to Italy with the squad on Tuesday morning ahead of United's Champions League semi-final second leg.

Sir Alex is delighted to have them back at his disposal for such a crucial match, but he's unsure about whether they will start at the San Siro.

"Vidic got the all clear from the specialist on Monday and Rio has done some training over the last two or thre days," revealed the Reds' boss at his pre-match press conference.

"With both of them we have a decision to make, frankly I'm nowhere near making it. I need to see them train.

"I'd be delighted to play them both, but I don't know if that's possible."

The Reds are currently 3-2 ahead in the tie after coming from behind to claim victory over the Rossoneri last week at Old Trafford.
