Hi All,

My friend just talked me into this Mamiya 6 thing, although I got a compact Contax T3 already. Want to hold it and test it out first, searched around but didn't find any shop selling this camera

Wonder if any here has experience with this camera? Probably go with the 50/4 lens would be a good start, but couldn't find this lens either. Is this lens any good?

I'm a Pentax guy, only know stuff about Pentax, don't know anything about these Mamiya stuff ...

Your input will be very appreciated.

Thanks and cheers!

Hi Fengwei

I've been in the market for this cam as well...for the last 2mths plus or so. Hardly anyone selling it in Sg. Only found several in Ebay, and they start from USD$800+ upwards for body alone. FYI, there are 3 lenses meant specifically for this cam....50mm, 75mm and 150mm.

The main reason I wanna get one of these is the fact that it's the most portable 6x6 cam around. It's no fun doing streets with a hassy....haha.

All the best with your search...and do let me know if you find one in Sg!

Thanks Nizz for the reply. Seems it's really hard to get one of these nowadays. Why suddenly high demand for this FILM camera during this digital era  Thought I could get them easily 'cause everybody is using digital now ...

Oh well, I'll check eBay and try my luck there then.

Cheers!

It's an excellent system, all 3 lenses with body collapse nicely into a rather compact bag. Not to mention the lenses collapse into the body. When it's collapsed it's even smaller than my D200! Actually even when it's NOT collapsed it's smaller.

All 3 lenses are in my eyes excellent. The 150mm is a tad difficult to focus but when it does it produces excellent results.

It's not as small as a bessa or leica but then again it's not as cumbersome as an RB67 either! I think Hasseys are still quite compact considering I shot street with an RB67 before.

As for hunting down one locally, it's going to be tough! Firstly because it's an old cam, most people have the 7 or the 7II. Secondly because most people who have it will want to keep it!

I got lucky and someone approached me locally and sold it to me for a good bargain.

Happy Hunting!

You lucky sonofagun.....

So you've got the complete set of 3 lenses??? My oh my....

I'll continue my hunt. It's ridiculously expensive on Ebay. Complete set of 3 lenses + body goes for USD$2.5k upwards. Sigh....

To answer Feng Wei why film is getting more and more popular these days...

It's like shares and equity, medium format hit rock bottom in the past 6 months. World wide there are some folks who had been dumping their hasseys, fuji's and Mamiya. Once forbidden toys for the Z-generation (people like me... Cat-Z on SAF terms, age group > 35) found ourselves beginning to find these once forbidden fruits affordable!

Hence, some folks (like me) are starting to go into medium format and buying again...

The Mamiya 6 & 7 are particularly sought after because they are medium format RF which are small enough to be carried around, not too crumblesome to use. You can forget about finding them in Singapore. There are only 2 places on earth that you can find them pretty easily... (1) e-bay (Optimus Prime's favourite web site :bsmilie: ) (2) Fly to Japan and get one.

There is one Mamiya 7 on TCW display. You can check it out. :)

The other alternative medium RF which have excellent lenses are the Fuji fixed lens medium format RF. The GW670 III, GW690 III, GWS690 III are the ones you can check it out if you have a sub USD1K budget. :)

If you are really really bitten by the medium format bug... then you can take a look at the Fuji GX617 with the complete set of lenses, which is my dream dream camera....

Have fun!

ya.. seems like only camera system that is not falling is the RF leica?!

oh... the Leica prices are like the property market... last few weeks ago... it went down to SGD1600+ for a chrome M6 (non-TTL). Then this week... I think it went back up to SGD2300.

If you want a compact MF camera, a TLR might do the trick. Mamiya's TLRs have changeable lenses too.

well said. 1 shop in peninsula offered me the same m6 with a difference abt $400 plus within 2 weeks.

The reason why Mamiya 6 & 7 are sought after because Mamiya has stopped production of the model. This cam gives good images except that focusing is difficult for a senior like me but for a young man should not be a problem.

I have the model 7II and I enjoyed using it. The 50mm is the wide lens and the standard lens is 80mm. If you are offered a good price, go for it.

Try TCW, they may have but their prices are rather high.

Spotted a few good condition M3, SS, with 50mmf2 summicron lens for around 1.5KUS$ in the ebay, this turned out to be less than 2.5k SGD. For the same gear, shops in penisular asking for 3k++.

Now I'm looking for the Mamiya 6 w/ a 50/4 G lens. Any one knows where to get one besides the evilBay?

Many thanks.
