There's no close up filter for my Sony so just have to live with it.

For your case, it's similar to Canon's S2 and S3 IS at 0cm macro.

I was using up to +9 close-up. Problem with the lens-twisting trick is that it is very sensitive so you can't really adjust it properly.

Ahhh...i only use a +4 cos i think if +too much, won't the lens get so close until it hits the subject?

yah +9 is very close, minimum distance is couple of cm.

I've heard of a +10 too. My +4 can bring my 50mm to about 10cm away from the subject or a bit closer.

actually mine is +4 +4 +1 (Canon 250D, and Hoya +4, +1)

Ermm...like that isn't it degrading the picture quality a lot further?

still acceptable, not much barrel distortion.[ enough to see the scale and melanophores on my tiny fishes.

Ohh....think for me 1 close up filter is enough.

you remember that "world smallest fish" news recently? I was taking things of that size that's why need +9, and now 1:1 macro :)

the raynox dcr-250 is +8..fantastic image quality..hoping to get it soon...

I can only achieve up to 1:3 magnification using my +4.

I manage "1:1" on the basis that 36mm ruler appears as full-frame :) of course this is not really optical 1:1 but given the limitation of digicam sensor, is good enough. I still get 36mm spread over 2592 pixels.

depends on what you want to shoot, more + is not always better as you may not be able to focus so close, or the object is too big for +8. you probably need a set of +2, +4 and +8.

My sony compact digicam is only 3.2MP so can reach a max of only 2048 x 1536 pixels...but it's gd enough le :)

An oldie but goodie.
