Macro with Ext tube

Hi,

Need some help:)

I bought an extension tube to complement my 60mm EFS Macro to get even closer to my subject and maybe get more magnification, only to find that the extension tube cannot take EFS lens.

Any suggestions on how I can get closer than my 20cm limit? Or how to increase magnification? Mine can do up to 1:1.

Thanks in advance!

The other options will degrades yr picture quality. You can add a 250D or 500D filter in front but these are not cheap, Hoya +4 would be cheaper. Another option i can think of is to add a 1.4X TC den the tube. note that these option will degrades yr photo quality due to extra elements.

Which brand of extension tube did you get ?

I dun think closeup filter can help to reduce the focusing distance for 60mm macro lens. It works well with telephoto lens and gives fixed focusing distance depend on diopter rate.

Thanks Deswitch and megaweb. The extension tube I got was a Triplus. The shop selling me forgot my macro was an EFS:) But they said they don't know of any extension tube taking EFS lenses. I'll slowly explore the options you have suggested. In the meantitme I guess I have to work within the limitations of the 60mm.

I think canon original extension tube (Extension Tube EF 12 II/ EF 25 II) will support EF-S lens but it is very expensive.

Oh ya, thanks for correcting Megaweb. i ever tried on my tele before i got my macro lens.

hi guys, i also have the Tamron 90mm and have been happy with it except that i can't really get the "full frame effect". I've been looking online for answers and found that to achieve the full frame effect i would need an extension tube plus a little bit of cropping most probably.

But im kinda confused with some Kenko terminologies. What are the major differences between the Teleplus and Uniplus series? Am i right to say that Teleplus series lets u shoot from further while still achieving the magnification (i.e. like a TC) while the Uniplus basically still requires you to go near the subject (butterflies, flies etc) but has a 2:1 magnified ratio?

Thanks in advance guys...still trying to learn from the gurus here.

Just my sigma Dg500 with my simple bounce card on a off-shoe cord for my lighting. Left hand holding flash, right hand holding camera. (making a flash bracket soon so its easier to control)

Hi DeSwitch,

I am amazed. How do u hold the flash in 1 hand and then take pic with the other?
I am serious, I wish to know.... 'cos I think I might have missed out something ...

Mind teaching me a trick or 2? thanks :)

I'm lost with yr terminology too. Usually for butterflies, the 90mm will have filled the frame. The tubes (i'm using 25mm) will gives you better magnifications. but you have to move nearer to the subjects. How the tube works is that it reduce the minimum focusing distance
to give you the extra magnification. I'm not good with wiriting so maybe the Gurus here can help.

Haha.. my flash is attached to the cam with a off-shoe cord just in case you mised that part. left hand holding the flash with the bounce card attached. I'm still playing ard with my setup. normally flash mounted on yr cam will gives harsh highlights. Right hand holding camera with lens set to manual focusing at the minimum distance (for my case) and focusing is by moving yr overall distance from subject with yr body. The cam is given more stability by using yr face as support. This is my technic. others may have different technics.

excellent job  ,DeSwitch
i just cant find a off cam flash cord my my panny :(

haaha it's my fault as i've just realised that uniplus and teleplus are just brands (unless im wrong again!!) :sweatsm:

i think i was too excited withthe pix and read too much into it. anyway, will be getting the ext tubes and try it on soon!
