M9 - a la carte

Good morning CSers
Has anyone here in Singapore done an engraving on the top plate of the M9?
I have seen images in HKLFC forum and some in Singapore web page as well.
It was indicated that for a fee of 270euro one can have it done.
When I enquired in the Leica owners forum, I was told by Leica Germany that there is no such service rendered.
Are the images just a rumour?
I would certanly like to have my top plate engraved in a similar fashion of the M3 top plate.
Any lobang???

Thanks for reading.

Max has nice engraving on his M9

That would be this I guess http://www.leica-a-la-carte.com/. Seems to me like it's for new camera purchase with custom design choices from engraved top plate, different magnification viewfinder to different covering. Each custom item has a different price associated with it.

Yes, it can be done and the price quoted to you is correct but if you are "lucky" you can even have it done for free... I put lucky between brackets because the only way to have it done for free is if you are sending your camera for servicing to Germany under warranty.

Here are 2 engraved M9 found in Singapore (Photo courtesy of ZoomP):

Leica M9 by zoomp09, on Flickr

The one on the left is mine and the one on the right is Mr ZoomP's. Notice the different engraving. Mine was engraved during the assembly process whereas ZoomP's was engraved when it was sent for servicing.

The engraving on ZoomP's M9 seems to be the most common, at least it is the one I have seen on HKLFC.

What about changing the LCD to sapphire glass? Anyone done that?

Afraid fat chance of it happening if you send your camera in through the Singapore dealer. Mine is currently in Germany for repairs under the existing warranty. I did ask for the engraving to be done and was told flatly that it would come under the ala carte program. Guess what? I was just told a few days ago that it would cost me S$700 excluding GST of 7%.

I said thank you to the staff at the local dealership and have written directly to Germany.

Hopefully dealing direct is cheaper. Let us know what comes out of this.

Thanks Meven
Well , mine is under warranty and was given a flat "NO".
Astroboy 888 was quoted S$700.
What's happening?
This is really frusterating.....
Pay so much for a camera and seems like they are doing us a great big favour.
Will revert to Leica to see what they have to say........
Thanks to all who responded.

If you are daring enough, you can get one of your old Leica III template and scribble on it using a sharp knife yourself... :bsmilie:

Maybe soon enough someone might come out with a tatoo. Easier mah.............

Ya! I am sure Jon & Jeff (The 2 J's) already have it done at their buttocks...:bsmilie:

Max, don't think I've seen any with the serial no. engraved too. I've seen both versions on RFF and HKLFC.

Actually, the one on HKLFC are a combination of mine and yours. They both have the serial number engraved but with the same wording as mine, look here: http://forum.hklfc.com/?o=topic&act=show&id=51685&page=1

The 2 limited edition M9 I know of are the Leica M9 Neiman Marcus and the Leica M9 black paint body edition by Rahn Photo in Germany. They both have engraving with the same wording as yours but no serial number...

Safe to say that Leica has no standard when it comes to engraving M9s...

Thanks for the link bro. Good to know that. Anyway, you're right about the script standard. Think Solms can't decide the spacing either on these scripts.

I actually had one done but instead of Leica, the guy put Lisa!:bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Leica solms came back to inform me that they will do the engraving after all.
Now to sought out the process and cost.
Will update on progress.

I'll be interested to see which engraving you'll end up with.
