Hi,
Messier 6 (NGC 6405) Butterfly Cluster is located in the constellation of Scorpius and near the two stinger stars.

Anyway, the weather wasn't that good... quite clear, but with a layer of high clouds. So I decided not to waste the night and shoot at M6, the butterfly cluster... thinking that the high cloud shouldn't affect the stars much, but I was wrong. The result stars was not sharp and look bloated.

Below is the M6 image I took on 25 Apr 2009 02:34hr SGT:

this is great!

Interesting. Was thinking of photographing M6 and M7 too. Maybe will give it a shot sometime next week.

Hi,

M7 was a bit too big for my 800mm focal length telescope to cover, so I took M6 instead.

May be you can also try the Lagoon (M8) Nebula and Trifid (M20) Nebula region... you should be able to cover both of them in the same field with your Canon EF 70-200mm F4L lens.

Have a nice day.

Thanks for the input. But a nebula at mag 6 = a star at mag 6 with light spread over the area of the nebula right? If so, i'm guessing both targets still wouldn't be easy. Will give it a shot though.

Yap...

I shoot both objects before using my previous scope and it's easier than you thought... you should be able to get very decent result if you can stack more than 10 x 1min. I'll also re-shoot both of them using my current setup when I had more time.

Do try and have a nice day.
