Of course you are set already, but for anyone else also, consider for closeups, just buy an adapter, an extension tube set, and a second hand Nikkor, Canon FD, olympus OM, or minolta, etc.. 50 f1.4 or f1.8 MF lens...All this should set you back about $150 US or so...Absolutely no need for AF in micro mode anyway... Or just buy a micro Nikkor 55 F2.8 and a Fotodiox adapter and be done with it...

Yup very sound advice. Especially about no need for Auto focus when doing macro. Didn't realize that until I tried macro, and yeah, its all manual focus and moving forward/backwards in the world of macro photography. So if AF can be entirely eliminated from the lens criteria, suddenly a lot of options open up, as listed by george671.

lol, everybody has a different technique. Sometimes fast AF tracking can be helpful when shooting handheld macros.

Thanks all for the comments and discussion. I have already bought the Oly 45mm f/1.8 , getting used to framing with it still, but I think I'll get there soon. The lens build feels and looks very high quality, even though it's plastic. Focus ring is wide, very smooth and responsive, much better to use than the focus rings on my panasonic 20mm and 14-45mm actually.

I also just got my raynox dcr-250 macro adapter to mount on my 14-45mm lens for macro shots, and I'm quite happy with the results actually. Definitely save a lot more money than getting a PL45, plus it can be adapted to future lenses.

Here are some shots from the past couple of days to share, taken with the Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 on a E-P2, the last macro shot of the flower is taken with the Panasonic 14-45mm with Raynox DCR-250 macro adapter.

I got the Panasonic Leica 45mm instead though, seemed more of a "able to cover macro and portrait" lens for me..

Just tried the 45mm macro earlier at the garden festival... i feel like a n00b leaning over a bunch of flowers turning the focus back and forth haha... cannot see ah! think I gonna get the viewfinder... one more thing is, i think tripod for macro is a very good to have... my hands were like going up and down while trying to focus on gettin' a macro of those flowers... =(((( need more practice...

Haha. you will get use to it. sometime you can try auto first for a start. and get use to the zoom. or M-Auto too. i have not get this lens yet but using the 12-50mm lens for macro too. result is quite good. lol
