hello,
I'm saving up for a M mount RF...maybe by the end of this year...but the higher end of the M series is way off from my budget..

so i have narrow it down to a few choices..

1. Leica CL
2. Leica M4-2/P
3. Voigtlander Bessa R series

could you guys help give some advice on the choices above? should i go with the leica? or the bessa? and i would probably get 50mm/40mm for the RF...

and as we are talking about RF...does the Contax G1/G2 auto focus can be overide? just use the manual focus?

i'm sorry if my questions sound silly...
and thanks :)

Yes, AF can be override by turning the focusing switch to MF on the G2.

you can consider a Zeiss Ikon too?

I suggest go for the leica, it still has it sale value in future you want to upgrade.

I can commends on the G2 only as I am using one.

The M4-2/P is reliable as it is a fully mechanical camera without a build-in meter.

If you are considering 40 and 50mm lenses, then the Voigtlander Bessa R3A or R3M will be great. It has 40/50/75/90mm framelines. The viewfinder is actually lifesize and focusing is a breeze with both eyes open. Nothing else beats this straight out of the box.

If you don't mind the short base length as you are considering the CL, then you can also consider Minolta's CLE, which is basically an improved CL.

Cheers,

i would say that if you want a nice smooth entry experience into RF, get yourself one of the bessas, you would really need to know what to look out for buying a 2nd / 3rd / etc hand M4 or CL.

as to which bessa, as beeny suggested, given your choice of the 40 / 50, the r3a would be a good choice

can't give you the link to our friendly voigtlander dealer... else some ppl might accuse me of getting commission... :bsmilie:

Hi Shahir,

Have you tried using a rangefinder before? This is an important question because it determines two critical factors. If you have NEVER tried rangefinder photography, and...

1) If you do buy a rangefinder, and you do not like rangefinder photography, you should buy pre-owned cameras (and preferably a Leica) to minimize your loss.

2) If you buy a Leica as your first rangefinder camera, you may end up frustrated as the more affordable Leica cameras do not come with meters or aperture priority, and the film loading is really something to behold.

So at the end of the day, you might be better off buying a pre-owned Bessa or CL/CLE at a good price if you're new to rangefinders.

I'd 2nd Cactus Jack on the Bessa. Nothing can go wrong with it. R3A would ease you in the metering side, while doing focusing. R4A if you like wide angle and like to be close with your subject.

hexar rf??? i brought two sets at 1200 sin each with 50mm f2.

one of the best m-mount i own so far.
