M mount module from Ricoh...

HMMM...

Maybe this might save me from buying a M8.

Optimized sensor and processor for M lenses. Finally a true M solution not unlike the M8 and Epson R-D1 minus the optical rangefinder?

Unfortunately this also means alot more users to compete with for lenses and prices will most likely go up.

Walked into a lens shop in Hong Kong the other day and saw a few Chinese customers using NEX and fitting on Noctilux lens. All I heard was, Lai Ka yi ding hao de, jiu mai ba, bu yong xiang le!

On the flip side, it might encourage Cosina to up their production and introduce more lenses. :P

Yeah the new generation Voightlander lens have been amazing, especially their M 75mm f/1.8 and m43 25mm f/0.95.

My questions is, when can we see a M f/0.95? The f/1.1 is great and all but it is still not a f/0.95.

:bsmilie:

I'm not greedy. AT the least, I want Cosina to re-release their 50mm/f1.5, the 75mm/f2.5. Getting either of these lenses has eluded me (in no small part because I was slow to making the decision about buying. ).

The 50mm/f1.5 is an elusive one. I really wanted this but gave up and got the 50mm f1.1 instead.

Not to mention that they have just discontinued the excellent 35mm f/1.2.

Considering the 50mm/f1.1, but I just acquired the Zeiss ZM 50mm/f1.5 C-Sonnar, and I already have one big lens, the 35mm/f1.2. I still wouldn't mind a 50mm/1.5 to fill in for the sharp department.

the nokton 50/1.5 will pop out somewhere soon enough, just wait lah... i found a minty copy at a premium as well as the ultron 35/1.7 both within the space of a month earlier!

with the expansion module for m mount, i'm just keeping my fingers crossed the evf will work great for fast & accurate manual focus!

Unfortunately the EVF of the GXR is not that great, it is afterall about a year old and I am benchmarking it against what I consider the current best, GH2.

I suspect the limitation comes with the fact that it's detachable.

Unless they do a full frame 36x24, otherwise, it's no point for them to jump into the M mount bandwagon. They don't even make M mount lenses at all. The only one they had was the 28/f2.8 which is supposed to be very limited in quantity.

Let's hope the sensor size is at least 1.33x....

They announced it here: http://translate.google.com/transla....co.jp/release/2011/0201_1.html&prev=_t&twu=1

"23.6mm × 15.7mm (APS-C size total number of pixels around 1290 million pixels) CMOS sensor "

Crop appears to be 1.5x. Honestly, I doubt they would go for an odd ball sized sensor because otherwise, tehy would be charging >2K for the sensor. Full frame would be around there too.

Thanks!

Then wouldn't be cheaper to get the NEX then? With NEX, you can also have choice of:
1. M mount
2. F mount (G lenses included)
3. EF mount
4. FD mount
5. MD mount
6. OM mount
7. PK mount
8. Rollei SL35 (QBM) mount
9. C mount
10. 4/3 mount
11. Sony/Minolta AF mount
12. Leica R mount
13. C/Y mount
14. M42 mount
15. Voigtlander Retina DKL mount
16. Konica AR mount
17. Pen-F mount
.....

Almost limitless... Pentax 67, 645, Hasselblad.....

If you want to mount Holga or Diana lenses, I'm sure you can easily do it too...

No EVF at the moment though, for NEX. I suspect they would release something eventually with an EVF. Question of time.

Some would also point out that Ricoh has some nice colors and tones when it comes to their jpeg processing though. I will wait and see. :bsmilie:

APS-C would take it more into the domain of the R-D1, albeit with better high ISO performance. How much better still remains to be seen, but I'm still skeptical. I'd rather save for a 8.2 if I was really going to continue down the M mount path. It's just different shooting with a rangefinder compared to mounting M lenses on a cam with EVF/LiveView.

The risk with the M8 is that if it fails, I'm not sure if Leica has many spare parts to service it, never mind the long turn around Leica is legendary for.

That is true. Either way, the M8/8.2 is not anywhere on the horizon quite yet so I'm still sticking with good ol' Tri-X. There's just something annoying about a crop factor, but the premium to pay for a 135-sensor M mount camera is unjustifiable for now, and only one camera monopolises that market.
