LX3 vs TZ7

TZ7, the bottom line is that it's design to be both still & video camera from start. And not an add-on video function.

Hmm ok, i guess newer technology does fair better than the 1+ year old LX3. But primarily i still take more stills than HD videos on my LX3 so this won't be much of a problem. :)

i probably wont too.. afraid that he will either take and run, or mis-handled my precious dslr..

That the reason why I still need a PnS during my travels, it not every places that you had time to setup the tripod.

Not forgetting the 4GB limit per video the LX3 have when taking video. That the TZ7 does not share in AVCHD-Lite.

Yeah to be exact it's 10mins 30secs per clip. But ok lah, gd enough.;p

if everyone start comparing, this is not going to end and is better off listing the manufacturer spec.

I had own LX3 and FT1(not TZ7 but with AVCHD). I would still vote for LX3 due to its bright lens.

Bright lens are useful for both video and still. And LX3 has better noise control due to its larger sensor.

I turn off video CAF on my FT1 even though it is available. Why, because it tends to focus something else when you start panning. I have not had more than 7mins of video on my LX3 or FT1. If you study videography technique, they dont teach you to video continously for 7mins :)

Just my 2 cents

And it would take out your 4GB while only a faction on the TZ7.

Like I say, TZ7 is designed to be a Still & Video camera from start while the LX3 is a low-light still camera with video function.

Just bought the LX3, Super!! I own a TZ15 ( 10x Optical Zoom ) but was really not happy with its night shot capability. After seeing one of the bro posted a pic taken by LX3 in High Dynamic mode with Art Filter, i decided to buy the LX3. And to my suprise, it really works!! The high Dynamic mode really gives me what i want for my night shot. I am one happy man!!

So which means i might have to buy a larger capacity card as i plan to bring it with me to Australia next mth end so 8GB might not suffice.

Yeah i saw that pic too but haven't tried it as i always shoot in aperture priority mode with Dynamic as my film mode.

If you are planning to shoot a lot of RAW & Video on your LX3, you may want to carry a laptop. That what I did previously with my TZ15, coz the video is taking out alot from my 16GB card.

For better low light IQ in high ISO (till 400), no doubt LX3 is much significant than the TZ7. However after ISO 800, the IQ between the two is quite unnoticeable.

Personally the best friend for a TZ7 for night shots is a full-length tripod (1.6m), that what I bought a small (folded to the size of a mini-tripod) and light (about the weight of the camera). Which I shoot at ISO 80 ~ 100 with MOIS disabled, the IQ is similar to those shot with LX3 at 200 ~ 400.

If you notice in the High Dynamic Mode, it does add to the noise of the image which you may be better shooting 3 image and do a HDR image in Photomatix. Alternatively even with a single JPG from a well exposure picture, creating a HDR image via PS is just a 1-click job and you can even customise to get better tonal, contrast & saturation control.

Personally like I mention, the two camera is designed for two separate needs. And the equipment is only as good as its wielder. Shoot More, Learn More... :)

Yeah definitely bringing my laptop cos i'm going there for a study workshop.

Den you should have no problem.. :bsmilie:

I hope so but cannot guarantee cos i won't be carrying it around always so hope during the day i won't take too many pics and HD videos. :bsmilie:
