Maybe you post us both the LX-1 and LX-2 ISO400 pics indoor for everyone here to compare. I am sure many will be grateful.

;)

is LX-2 out in the SG mkt already?

Yes, that would be really nice and appreciated by many of us! ;) If I may ask for something, could you please try this? Take two shots using LX2 at ISO400 but one with LOW noise reduction and one with standard.

In all Japanese reviews is evident a significant loss of details from ISO 400 and above. And I'm really interested to see if the LOW NR helps in this problem or not? I don't care about a bit higher noise, but lost details are bad :( The images then looks like watercolor paints or so..

Thank you in advance!

LX2 availability is scheduled for Sept 30 in the US/Eur...SG nobody knows.

At least for Europe, that's not true. Some shops have them in stock and mine is on its way to me. Should arrive on mon or tue.

okay, okay :)

I'm not sure about interational orders, but I read somwhere that at least one shop located in the US an one in HongKong has the LX2 in stock. If I find the URLs, I'll post them. A quick look on eBay may help, too.

All German shops with "sofort lieferbar" have them in stock:

Have fun!

the iso 1600 shots looks pretty bad in my opinion. no where close to wat the fuji f30 is able to deliver and nt even close to the ricoh GRD. :(

sad man.

if only pana can do something abt their noise control while retaining detail, otherwise it';s a lovely 16:9 camera

Unfortunately, the Venus III engine really kills the fine details in JPEG output. The things improves if you select LOW noise reduction in [Pict. Adj.] menu. However, the best possible results can be achieved by shooting to RAW and denoising the images with Noise Ninja or similar tool.

Here you can see some comparative full res. crops from ISO 400 photo taken with FZ50. Although the physical size and form factor of FZ50 sensor is slightly different from LX2, both cameras use the same Venus III engine, so they are well comparable in terms of quality.

These crops were taken in JPEG with two different levels of JPEG noise reduction and also RAW data cleaned by noise ninja. As you can see, the RAW file cleaned with NoiseNinja is perfectly usable and in terms of preserved details clearly outperform any JPEG shot, even with lowest NR.

http://filexoom.com/files/view/15340/ISO400_crops.png

Unfortunately, RAW files are too large, slow to write and problematic for later editing/archiving. So shooting in RAW is not very useful for everyday photographing. It would really be great if we could be able to turn the in-camera noise reduction completely OFF, so then we would be able to get the same level of details as in RAW, with much faster writing and smaller file size.

And this is the reason of just started petition for LX2/FZ50 firmware update, which will allow us to turn the picture adjustments completely off. This option should allow us to get the maximum possible resolution and details form JPEG, which now have smudged details, due to strong NR (even at LOW level).

If you wish to take a part in this petition, just go and sign yourself here and don't forget to tell the others about it..

thanks odklizec, very good info for those contemplating LX1 and 2. Good initiative to get panny to revise the LX2 firmware to include off-selection for pic-adjustment/NR. :D

btw, where did u get ur LX2 and for what price? :)

The truth is that I don't have LX2 yet ;) I'm about to get one ASAP but I now have other priorities :(

With the availability of aperture priority in the LX-2, how's the depth of view comapred to the DSLRs?
