Lumix GF2 in Singapore

Actually... if I were to buy a GF1 instead of a GF2, I would consider it a 'downgrade'. There is just nothing a GF1 can do that the GF2 cannot do better. I wouldn't touch a GF1 with a 10-ft pole when it was launched but I bought the GF2 because of its more advanced features and much smaller size. I love the touch-screen by the way and do not consider it a hindrance to operation although one or users did. ;)

Yes indeed the GF2 is more advance in many aspect except the lack of certain dials and buttons.. which is probably the major reason why there's still a lot of die hard GF1 fan out there.. :)

Owners of GF1s probably do not have a need to replace their GF1 with a GF2 any time soon if they are still satisfied with the performance of their GF1. But I believe we are talking here about people without any GF cameras and are thinking of buying one.

I for one am not at all affected by the lack of dials and buttons. I find that I can operate the GF2 just as easily as any other cameras with dials and buttons if not better and am certainly not willing to give up better image quality and performance just to have a camera with some dials and buttons.

It simply doesn't make sense to me why anyone would deliberately buy an obsolete model just to get a particular lens which could be bought separately in any case. There is a reason technologically why Panasonic replaced the GF1 with the GF2 and you would most likely regret your decision later on if you knowingly bought the outdated GF1 at probably the same price or more instead of the GF2 now.

There is also nothing particularly wrong with the 14mm lens as it serves a different function from the 20mm. It is also much smaller, lighter, quieter and faster focusing than the 20mm and makes the GF2 look really sleek and slim. If you find that really need the 20mm, just buy it later on either new or used.

Thanks Bro~ I will still settle on the GF2 and get the 20mm later part. Reason for preferring 20mm as read from review is more on low lighting perform better than 14mm one. :bsmilie:

dont see the absolute need for a 20mm if you have the 14mm...i would save it for something else

I have both the 20 and 14... 14 is good for landscape, walk about, general travel... But 20 is good for capturing more details and subject isolation. I am planning to get a 45mm or zuiko 50 macro for portraits .

I bought GF1 after comparing it with GF2 at the shop. GF2 is not much smaller. I do believe that GF2 is one notch higher on specs, but point to note, as with all gadgets, specs is not the only indicator of product superiority.

My observation is that GF1 built is more solid. My personal feel is that touch screen is more versatile, while buttons is definitely much more faster to access than touch screen.

With regards to the 20mm lens, I would say that I really took a lot of photos indoors at F1.7 ISO 800 which looks good without flash. Try that with the 14mm and you would have to push the ISO much much higher with a lost of details.

My only problem with the GF1 is the way which the camera defaults to 1/30 shutter in certain modes. You can google on that. I have a thread on that issue somewhere here.

End of the day, both cameras are very beautiful in their own ways. I think u go and feel both cameras before you decide. You won't get a girlfriend based on specs or reviews from other guys right?

If other guys have reviewed the internal components of your girlfriend inside out and outside in, maybe it won't be so beautiful liao. ;p Just joking bro.
