Strange isn't it? A couple of weeks back, it's the other way round. Then people were buying the kits and selling off the bodies and keeping the lens. What happened?

I think both group also have...the earlier group are those existing panny user that are more keen on the lens.. the newer group of people probably bought the 14-42+14 kit and wants to get rid of the 14mm, maybe to fund for the 20mm instead... but honestly, at around $450 to be me the lens i felt its not worth as i already have the 20mm.. consider the reviewed as "so-so" 14mm is just a couple of tens cheaper tens cheaper than the killer 20mm.. just my personal opinion... but it does look great on GF1 or GF2 considering the compact size and handy...

Yes the 14mm is overpriced. Even the dealers thought so. It is also the same price as the 20mm but is f/2.8 only compared to the 20mm's f/1.7. The only thing it got goig for it is that it's slimmer in size.

Dealers have everything to complain about you see, actually comparing MTF charts, the 14mm is better in terms of contrast reproduction and overall sharpness, losing out only in terms of corner to corner sharpness, but do they understand? Both are metal mounts, and one serves more for street photography while the other is way wider.

And the 14mm has one more aspherical element? Ha.

It is f2.5 :p

Well, there's a quote for those who would purchase the lens at such high prices straight from the kit set.
"There's always a sucker born everyday" :)
They make the seller a very happy person as the GF2 they are getting is less than the price of a 14mm lens.

According to many sites, the 14mm/f2.5 is also quieter and better for video, while the 20mm/f1.7 is more noisy as it is not internal focusing like the 14mm..

That I have to agree, 20mm is too noisy for video unless the environment is noisy itself.
The 14mm is wider and lighter, when shooting relatively wide scene we seldom use large aperture unless its night time.

Hi all, intend to get GF2 but i don't think anywhere will sell it with 20mm pancake unless i buy separately right?

What the best option? Buying separately and try to sell off the 14mm or just get the GF1 :(

It simply doesn't make sense to me why anyone would deliberately buy an obsolete model just to get a particular lens which could be bought separately in any case. There is a reason technologically why Panasonic replaced the GF1 with the GF2 and you would most likely regret your decision later on if you knowingly bought the outdated GF1 at probably the same price or more instead of the GF2 now.

There is also nothing particularly wrong with the 14mm lens as it serves a different function from the 20mm. It is also much smaller, lighter, quieter and faster focusing than the 20mm and makes the GF2 look really sleek and slim. If you find that really need the 20mm, just buy it later on either new or used.

Bro,

I am glad you had deleted and edit the sentence stating "deliberately downgrade" and change to "deliberately buy".. for using a GF1 vs GF2...

I guess both GF1 and GF2 has its ups and downs. That's why you can still see alot of CSer insist not to change their GF1...

Actually... if I were to buy a GF1 instead of a GF2, I would consider it a 'downgrade'. There is just nothing a GF1 can do that the GF2 cannot do better. I wouldn't touch a GF1 with a 10-ft pole when it was launched but I bought the GF2 because of its more advanced features and much smaller size. I love the touch-screen by the way and do not consider it a hindrance to operation although one or users did. ;)
