Lumix GF2 in Singapore

IIRC, I was quoted $980 or $990 by CP (credit card price). :)

If that is the actual price then the black lens might be label the cheapskate lens instead of being the rare color lens.
A bit like the two Oly 14-42mm, two different colors.

Many occasions, the salesman will tell us... very cheap already bro ...only make $10 from you la.

You have just confirm the bullshit about their $5 - $10 profits.

Your friend sold you at $999. Assuming, he sold you at cost price, that means the other shop selling at $1158 is making $159 profit.

Well just got it at a very very special price for the twin lens kit. $999 ;)

The shop has to pay rent, utilities and the salary of the staff. 15% profit is not really a lot, after you deduct everything it is a lot less.

999 is eating into the dealer's margins, not cost price. Unless that's a parallel import, or a display unit which is not meant for sales. Notice the special offer person is unwilling to share the dealer's name? He could get them in trouble for announcing this.

Haha guys, why bother about how much profit and the stainability of the shop... Unless you wana open a shop... What's most concern to us is to get the lowest price with reasonable service.. :)

Anyway, there is also possibility of so called $10, $20 profit claim by the shop.. this are off-hand profit.. they still have end year rebate or incentive if they hit target.. this is common practice in electronic industries...

Back to the topic of GF2, seems like the pricing of the lens in the bns is showing a huge discrepancy.
WTB 14mm/F2.5 is expecting the price to be $300 while WTS is expecting $400~$450.

That's always the trend with WTB setting at a lower rate than WTS right? I'd be more surprised if the trend is reverse, heh.

I'd think because the lens is new and people can't put a good gauge of the price, hence the WTB being at such a low rate. Those WTB folks might not have done their research well enough to know market rate for 14mm is 500+?

Ultimately people who are desperate enough to sell at 300 will do so. Market rate is just a rough gauge.

Or maybe I should re-introduce the RCP of all Panny lenses, flashes and accessories somewhere. Hmmm....

How about an alternative view, if one considers that the WTS price of GF2 is ard $650. Simple math would mean the Kit Price (GF2 + 14mm) - GF2 body price = 14mm price.

Over time, whatever differences would be arbitrage away. Of course the GF2 body price could be 550 instead, which explain the higher 14mm price. Only carrot cake with asymmetric information would buy a 14mm at 500+ given that GF2+14mm only costs < 1k, unless the price of GF2 body is an amazing 400+ :o

Don't lah, just consume more of your time doing it while you could be out shooting instead ;)

.

i think all WTB guys know the RCP of the 14mm... but all dun know the "body only" price of the GF2... Thats's why using body price of GF1 to gauge the price of GF2... :)

It matters to keep expectations realistic.

I can post that I got my GF2 at a price that the man on the street can never get but does it accomplish anything? No, except alot of people will be going up to dealers asking for a price that they can never meet and claiming that other shops are selling it for that price.

Anyway, for the 2 lens kit, how does the 14-42 compare to the older 14-45? Plastic mounting ring and physical OIS switch on the lens? What about image quality?

For what it is worth, using HK RRP the ratio between GF2 and 14mm is roughly 6:4.

So mathematically if the package is $1000 the cost for a GF2 is $600 and 14mm is $400.

Of course it is up to seller and buyer to establish their price points. IMO sellers putting up GF2 at $600-$650 seems reasonable, as would seller putting up 14mm for $400-$450. There were those who offered the 14mm for $520-$600, that's very close to the normal retail price of the lens at our usual shops, and sellers want to milk the entire discount of the kit set on the body.

But, truly, buyers and sellers decide what is reasonable, or what they are willing to pay. No point bitching.

Anyhows, there will be a GF2 Roadshow next week at Wisma, with a chance to win a free GF2. Will post more details soon =)

Does that mean buy one gf2 get one gf2 free or is it some kind of pop quiz? I better go back and memorize all the specs of the G-series.
