Lumix G 20mm f1.7 OR 14mm f2.5

You are no. 3, a bloke, as it is a slang for guy.
Of course you can be no. 4, unknown, those who's IC stated that they are this gender while they look like the other gender on the other.

No worries man, I have covered all the bases already liao.

Hahaha, I know bloke is slang for guy, but what if I alien lei? :bsmilie:

No. 4, unknown also can be applied.
But if you are an alien then I will have to make a call back to my unit to bring out the big shoe.
Don't worry, its just a giant bug squasher cos you are a bit too big.
Lucky you are not called tiny, else it will be a paradox.

I have both. So far, I use 20mm more as I shoot portrait more often. I guess when I am traveling, 14mm might stay longer on the cam.

Yep do consider the 20mm.

As for the 25mm f/1.4, rumors are that the barrel is going to be silver (probably in line with the rangefinder look ie professional market) it's definitely going to be expensive.

Same with the 12-50. Time to move away from the economical lens and into the lens Panny should have made in the first place.

Hi,

I'd go for the 20mm. Been using it and I must say I'm impressed by it.
However, back to the basic question of a lens used for travelling - why not consider the Olym 14-150mm lens instead?

The 14-150mm lens is the lens I bring out nowadays whenever I go travelling. I've sold off the 14-45mm since its range's covered by the 14-150mm. For me, having zoom is quite important and 'convenient' (ya, I 'm lazy sorry) when travelling.

=)
Happy CNY!

That is an idea worth considering since its F4-5.6, same as Panny 14-140mm but way lighter and cheaper.
I use the 14-45mm exclusively with the 20mm as backup if misfortune happens (shooting the wrong crowd) when travelling.
Now I'm waiting patiently for Panny 12-50mm Pro lens which will phase out my 14-45mm and maybe even the 14mm.

I just switched from Pen 1 to GH2. Used some Oly lenses on GH2 but i think the AF is slower. So wondering if Oly 14-150mm AF on GH 2 will be slow?

yeah so waiting for Panny 12-50mm.. That'll be my ultimate walkabout lens.

Yes, it will be slower since you have no OIS on it making your focus on the long side harder.
Not suitable for Panny cameras but nice on a Oly.
That's why I always say Panny and Oly screw their users on a regular basis just like Apple (where's my iScrew)
The 12-50mm might clear away quite a few of my lens, 14, 14-45, 20 (on a bright day), 45 (with raynox closeup filter).
The price might just be all of them combined. :(

YES !! I'll Sell my 14-42 and maybe 14-140 once the 12-50mm is available !

BUT.. I wont sell my 20mm. I just took tons of shots with it at the Riverhong bao yesterday night.. at the games side. WOW.. it was able to give usable shots in that kind of harsh lighting environment. Even more impressive is that I was able to get 1/60 kind of speeds for some shots which totally allowed me to have subject isolation.. Even when the subject was sitting on the rides !!! The f/1.7 has totally blown me away !:thumbsup::bsmilie:

Sample image from 20mm/f1.7 During Riverhongbao yesterday.

Look at the guy on the left. Rather good image duing the slower spin of the swing.
Also the guy in the superman shirt in the middle. And overall brightness of the photo.

I would never have achieved this with the standard 14-42 or even 14/f2.5 it would have been a little too slow on the shutterspeed. And this photo was shot at ISO 400 !

I agree the 20mm is a very good lens, that is why the 12-50 can only replace it in bright sunny days.
Hell I use the 20mm ,F1.7, 1/20 sometimes and the image is decent.
Motion blur is minimum when not blown to A4, try doing that with any other Panny lens with OIS without tripod.

yeah! ordered my 20MM from B&H last week. shd arrive this saturday. on the side note, was quite pissed off with B & H. I ordered last monday 24th Jan, then no news at all. then emailed them and this guy replied unapologetically said he sent me an email 3 days ago but i searched thru the whole gmail, every folder and didn't find anything from them. It was requesting an official document like bank ac statement, etc for verification but i didn't even get that email. So now its delayed in shipment till this sat due to CNY. =[ the wait for the highly commended 20mm F1.7 is torturous! esp over such a joyous holiday period. bleah.

Wow. So far my experience with B&H has been good. Usually 5 days shipping. Hmm I considered buying my 20mm but I got it at Msc for sgd 540. I calculated that @ usd 315 + 7%gst + usd 43 shipping is approx sgd 500. And I get local warranty. Didn't think it made sense to buy this from the US.

My friend got it from msc at 530 last june. guess price increase instead of dropping over here.

Seems they ran out of stock at CP. Got a lower e quote but they couldnt tell me when it would be in.. thats why i tried msc.. :bsmilie: needed it for CNY !!

Yep.. the prices are pretty firm. Seems that demand is high for the 20mm... Afterall, its the only native m4/3 prime with AF that is below F/2.0.. :)

Agreed, its the fastest lens Panny or Oly got for the moment until the 25mm/F1.4 comes in.
But then again, 25mm and 20mm serves one hell of a different view.
