Lucky Plaza DSLR Shops Reliability?

My cousin, a novice photographer, once purchased a Nikon SB-700 from Aik Seng at the RRP. To be fair, this isn't a scam, and she was a lone girl who just walked in.

But of course, most of us are aware that we can get it at a price much lower than RRP. Still, at least they didn't pull any tricks on her, which is probably a good thing.

Yes. I feel that Aik Seng may quote according to how "n00b" you looked to them. They don't pull stupid dirty tricks, but they may quote differently depending on how you "look". Chop tourist carrot head, if if you look knowledgeable and what you want, they don't really dare to pull stunt I think.

It quite sad that despite the numerous warning about shopping in Sim Lim and lucky plaza for photographic equipment, people tend to believe they're are very smart or "ger kiang" will not get chop, even if get chop can make matter big call police...

I have encounter 1 case where I keep telling a friend of my not to buy at lucky plaza but make the effort to purchase from reputable shops, but thinking she's very smart she still went to lucky plaza to purchase a memory card, end up spending $120 for a 8GB Sandisk Ultra CF card which the same amount can get her a extreme pro CF card, not she at there "cry father cry mother" say want call police want post online make thing big big unless she get refund...

I just bought a Nikon D5100 from TKFoto in Funan, I am perfectly happy with the cam. Now I am looking to buy a second DSLR for my wife. I was looking around the many shops all over Singapore and came across a cheap D90 and D5100 in Lucky Plaza sub $1k for both (forgot the shop name).

My concern is, are these cheap DSLR sellers in Lucky Plaza any good? Are the products sold there too good to be true or what? with the prices quoted for both models I am somewhat suspicious.

I travel a lot and really do not care about warranty much but I expect a genuine, brand new and high quality product (unless declared otherwise, but there was no indication either unit were not brand new).

Just to give you advice. Do not buy and do not try your luck in buying especially in lucky plaza orchard. "Aik seng photo" is number 1 bad service in lucky plaza bldg. they are nice at first but gives you bullshit in the end. I encounterd this myself so dont waste your time and money. Dont wait until the sales assistant ask you for a fight! By the wayTry SIM LIM bldg or stick to funan.

All of us in CS are not the LP camera shops' target customers. Clueless & wealthy tourists from nearby Orchard Road hotels who never heard of LP camera shops' notoriety are their target customers. If you insist on going there, they will still entertain you.

Yes it's so true... just because these shops are located along the tourist belt, tourists and shoppers have a false sense of security that these shops are doing decent biz.
