#21 Old photo New interpretation: Food for thought?

As colourful as the capsicums are, how tasty they are depends on the chef who cooks them.
As good as the new cameras are, how pretty the photos depends on the person who wields them.

Argh.. so must control my urge for the EPM2...

One of the old photos almost 2 years back when I still barely know how to operate a ILC and zero knowledge on cropping and post processing. With a slightly better knowledge on basic PP now compared to then, I will be recomposing, as well as learning to apply basic post processing on them to recreate the exact feel that I wanted back then. This is the edited version.

Spoiler: By the way, its not beer inside the glass, just plain green tea.

I think I can consider this as my first birding shot of a bird in motion. A duck is a bird, isn't it?
Ha, I know... bad pic, bad joke.

Hi keithwee, thanks for dropping by!
How to get this shot? hmmm.. get down low and set to highest fps? (ha..just joking)
Actually it was feeding time for the ducks in a Taiwan ranch, and so the ducks were literally charging towards us for their meals. :)

"Where got? See, there is a bicycle in the picture. I am aiming at it. I just misfired."

Just making the best of a OOF shot of a full winged butterfly in flight.
Sometimes, things appeared that they are so near, yet are so far...

#28 A first take of my own city

I have never formally taken a night time landscape before, let alone my own city coastal view.
It is really a different feeling between seeing other people's work and capturing that image by yourself personally. :D

I am sure there are a lot of technical flaws within it, but at the moment this is the best I can do until I read up in depth about landscape photography.

It is a NG take. Only saw the technically serious error after almost close to end of the post processing.
Take it with a pinch of salt, can you spot the obvious abnormality in the photograph?

Love the range of colours! :) But the foreground on the right seems a little too green though, and the blown out art science museum :bsmilie:

Dura77, thanks for the encouragement! Means a lot coming from a landscape lover. They are really my first attempts at landscape and long exposure.:bsmilie:

You are right on both accounts, but I wish they are only blunders that I have made. haha. There is one more silly blunder that if you have discovered it, you would have said "How come I did not notice that earlier?"... It made the other blunders seem less of an error. Wanna have another guess? :)

Ah the foreground stitching error! haha :bsmilie: It's a common error though, especially with close foreground elements :)

 Keen eyes! :bsmilie:
Anyway, I will just leave it here as it is as a reminder for myself to be more observant in foreground stitching.
Thanks for the comments on the stitching, colour and exposure, learn something about landscape. :)

Stitching error is common when not using a panoramic head, which rotates the camera around it's nodal point/no parallax error point. A point where light reverses and go into camera sensor, it;s normally somewhere in centre of lens. Meaning you will have to rotate around somewhere in the centre axis at a point inside the lens. With Olympus camera the centre of the tripod hole is off centre (except EM10). Hope that helps a bit in understanding panoramic photography. The further away object, the lesser chance of parallax error.

Just watch out a bit on exposure and try choosing a better (earlier blue hour) timing. Black skies aren't that interesting unless there's much moving clouds in your long exposure. Nice attempt and have fun :)

wonglp, thanks for the visit and the detailed explanation! A very enlightening post :light: Now I understand why due to the distance the previous photo did not have this issue while the second one did. Ya, really helps to understand panoramic photography from the technical perspective.

Ha, so you noticed the black skies as well. Will take note of that and the use of moving clouds in the future. Was trying to make the best of a night off from family commitment to squeeze in the two scenes near MBS in that 4 hours. :bsmilie: But definitely will try again, very addictive. :)

Now older and tagging a little junior, we catch them head-on on our cams...
