Hi guys, my current setup

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,4
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz
Memory: 8 GB
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
Upgraded to SSD

LR4 being sluggish was all over the net. Almost everything I do, the 2 cores will max out. Do you guys thing the new Macmini will help? Or is it just a LR4 thing?

Switch to a non Mac System.

Can't help you with questions over these Mac machines but my old Lenovo X series laptop was also getting damn slow when post-processing pictures with both Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS4. In the end, went to get a Lenovo T430 that runs on a Core i7 vPro processor with 16GB of RAM and a 2GB dedicated Nividia graphics card. All I can say now is, it is such a pleasure doing post-processing with Photoshop CS6. No lagged whatsoever. Cheers!

I run LR4 and CS5.1 on a 2011 Mac Mini (2 GHz quad-core i7) with no sluggishness, so I guess the 2012 updated Mac Mini will also run LR4 very decently.

Do you really need a MBP ?
I suggest you run it on a desktop with 4 cores and 8 GB RAM.
I'm still running it on 64 bit Win7 with Core Duo and 4GB RAM. A Little bit sluggish but quite tolerable.
Waiting for the budget to upgrade my machine

get the most out of your hardware by clearing out all bloatware .

fastest operating system - Damm Small Linux, Puppy Linux , etc.

puppy can run in pure ram . can run Gimp off it, too. you don't know how fast your computer is until you stopped using proprietary systems

Your graphic card may be the problem as only 256mb. Time for you to upgrade a new system. Mine still over power LR4 for now. Ha ha!

This is not an apple to apple comparison. Different software to start with. Irrelevant.

There is nothing bloated about Mac that I know of. Fast has nothing to do with your terminology of "proprietary".

hi im in the same situation as you. whenever im using or editing in my 3 yr + macbookpro. its frustratingly sluggish. but my solution is going to get the imac. i assume it will never be sluggish anymore. ;)

Graphics card helps in LR4??? How does that work? There are no rendering involved...
