sent my canon ixus 500 for repair last week due to the selector switch fault. canon change a battery unit ($50) and an optical unit(foc but never inform me before hand).

complaint 1 -

when i got the cam back i found that the battery seems to not fit in to the battery compartment any more , its become too tight, and when finally in , i need to use my finger nails to dig it out.

complaint 2 -

when i inspect the pic as they change the optical unit with first consulting me. to my horror i found a blue dot at the upper left hand corner at every pic i think must be due to hot pixel (ccd fault).

the cam is going back to the service centre asap! lousy service.

If out of intended goodwill, the optical unit was changed for you, and you want to raise hell over it... wouldn't it be unfair to the service center?

If the TS just goes there and informs Canon that there is a hot pixel after the change, even if the original optical unit was working fine, then I think Canon is obligated to replace that hot spoilt optical unit, but yes, raising hell won't solve the problem.

Well servicing is always a heng sway thing.

Heng heng u kena good experience u say they are good. Sway sway u hit bad patch, then they are bad.

From what i know, canon servicing is quite gd. I have friends who send out of warranty printers in for servicing and they tell him its FOC coz the problem was due to manufacturing fault. Isn't it nice of them? ;)

i sent in my TSE24 for cleaning, general servicing and calibration mid last month, stated in the service request in black and blue (the paper is blue).

1) they call me to go collect. upon checking, there is a big black spot right in the middle of the lens that wasnt there in the 1st place!! than they told me have to come back another day.

2) they call me again. on the phone, told me they had ordered a lens element from japan and it is foc. go figure how did they missed this fault the 1st time round???

3) they call me to collect the lens and had assured me it has been thouroughly chacked. when i reached there, they assured they had done the neccessary check.
but when i check, the lens cannot focus at infinity!!! i pass my d60 with the lens to them.

they told me "we cant check for focusing at infinity because we dont have a camera with "split circle focusing screen" like the one you have in your d60".

a) it is canon regional service centre, they have tons of camera there!!!

b) does it mean this lens cannot be use on camera that doesnt have the option to change to a "split circle focusing screen", namely the 2digit and 3digit models for both film and digital slr since user cannot confirm the lens is in focus at infinity!!!
if so, canon have failed to mention this problem any where!!!

4) they than tell me this problem happens because they seldom recieve TSE lens for servicing.

c) is it my problem??? they are the regional service centre!!! it is their responsibility to have qualified service personnel!!!

d) they told me they are iso certified company. iso certified my foot!!! how can this be??? calling customer to come collect the stuff without 1st ensuring the eqpt is 100% serviced according the the request!!!

e) for each of the trip down to canon, i have to take 1/2 day leave, who is going to compensate me!!!

5) they then tell me they will refund me the service charge of $105 by cheque and have the lens sent to my house.
