So insisted them to check and change the whole shutter assembly. Was inform they are flying the parts in from Japan and will take about 2 weeks. Meantime using their backup unit.

 So does it mean I could insist that they overhaul the whole shutter assembly and make it less loud??

I presume changing a new one will solve the irritating sound.I could have gotten a bad copy. If still loud then "lan lan", pardon my england! :D

I suggest you wait out and check back with me next week. Don't feel good sending my "preciuosss" for major ops!

Hey I had this problem with my 3 month old 10D too. When I wrote to canon to complain and the ask me send in. The manager attended to me said to me its within thier specs!! And told them "Specs my foot" (just kidding :D ). I tried my firends 2 set all sound so gentle. Mine's as loud as a 300D which I refused to accept!

IMO if this is the general case in the 20D, many have made the same comments in dprview.com... Changing the whole assembly may not solve the problem... Unless Canon is willing to that it is a hardware flaw that they had overlooked, and that they will change the shutter assembly with better dampers for free or for a small fee...

Then again, they will have to replace thousands, maybe tens of thousands should units... They will lost $$ big time...

Maybe like what Jeff had said, understand the cam and optimise it... Well, like I said... It's IMHO....

I some how agree. But we all know 10D has the softest shutter slap. If mine is loud it could proberbly a faulty one.

Had the same experience... also made noise and had the mirror box replaced...but no use loh... after sometime the sound gets louder... think the electro magnet for flipping the mirror is too strong and cause the damper to lose it's effectiveness after some usage. :(

since it has a loud shutter noise, then I suppose it also mean it is not worth to own it, rite? :D
I am planning to buy this model, I guess I have to re-consider :bsmilie:
