did you manage to capture any whales shot?

ok! finally got to re-linking my images after my original image host, picturesky went dead on me. do tell if these picassa image links work well for you guys ya? re-did abt 60links, another 60+ to go...

ok redid the other 60 too :) hope you guys enjoy the pics!

got quite a few PMs asking for links to the album, hence decided to do the relinking

One of the places I really want to go in the future!

I love the photo of the northern lights... was it partly orange, or are those the clouds from sunset?

I find it weird that you took 30 sec exposures for the NLs. Most photographers I know here tend to use fast+wide lenses with higher ISO so that they can avoid the long exposures to capture a better shaped NL.

I'll have a similar chance at the end of the year (not Iceland though)... I hope I get as lucky as you to get such clear skies.. :bsmilie:

Hi! The northern lights were not orange, the orange was. Light pollution from the surrounding towns:)

The northern lights are quite dim actually. So needed the long exposures :)

hey ricleo, beautiful shots! wad impressed me the most was ur exposure, all were tack-on, even in tricky situations like snow and sun in background... congrats =D

Hey ricleo.
I don't know I must have been dreaming all this past one month when your thread was up.. I ran through your photos with a over-flowing, over-whelming amount of awe. And I told myself three things:
1. This ricleo, his photography is really very impressive. I got to work my ass hard from now.
2. This Iceland, it's a stunning place. No wonder ricleo chose to go there. I must work my ass harder.
3. This Northern Lights, it's an experience that one must go through in life. And to use a high ISO and slow 30sec shutter speed at f/2.8 to capture like ricleo. I'm going to bust my ass working!
Thank you thank you and thank you for sharing your wonderful work with us, ricleo!

I guess it's because last year (and probably this year included) isn't the best time for NL viewing, cause the sunspot activity is low.

Anyway, just a little sidetracking... How cold was it in Iceland? Were there problems driving around (I guess it's the first time you're driving a fully winterized vehicle?), and does that extreme temperature affect the camera/lenses etc at all? Thanks for sharing :)

wah boss when did you go iceland. how come i never notice you missing from office hahaha. anyway, nice stuff you got here :D

great stuff, makes me wanna go Iceland, but its probably too expensive ....

AWESOME. +1 to my bucket list. thanks for sharing!

ha...i was there in Sept/Oct, not that cold in the day, maybe 5-10 deg, rather cold at night especially in the open fields where we were shooting the northern lights. Maybe temp wise was about 0, but the wind factor was bad. Very strong winds keke.....

driving wise, i din drive so i duno! but the cars had their tires wrapped with some metal spikes or chains or something, so it felt normal when we were on the road.

Ricleo, those Iceland pics of yours are amazing!!! WOW!!!! I love the aurora borealis shots. :thumbsup:It has always been a dream of mine to see them with my own eyes!! Did you do any settings for the white balance for those aurora shots??

missed out this post....ha.... wonder if LWW53 is still ard on CS.

WB i used auto most of the time, and tried using tungsten and fluorescent as well, but auto looked the most natural.

 for u, very great shots. And I love your pictures.

I love your pictures! Truly stunning and definitely post card worthy! Care to share your setup and gear for most of the pictures?

Thanks Apan and Kxdd,

most of the images were taken with my 16-35 mark 1 or 24-105 on the 5D classic, with the 100-400 paired with a 450d used on the long tele shots of wildlife :)

man i miss my 5D classic!
