It might help if you stated what sort of high speed cameara you need and for when.

Some folks regard a DSLR firing at 8 or more FPS as high speed, and to others, a high speed cam is a very specialised hi-res video camera firing at 10,000 fps and above.

No worries. Just thought it might help to clarify.

BTW, the Casio prosumers can go as fast as 1,200 fps, but it's low-res IIRC.

IF it's a high-res hi-speed video cam you need, try contacting the various cinematic rental houses. They may not have the cam, but they may know who does. You do know that generally you'll need truck loads of light right?

One name that comes to mind is Dan from Cinegear. Do a Google search. Dan is 'Trucatus' here on CS.

I know of a place who rents steadicam and it has a weight limit of 15 pounds !
That's twice the commercial standard.
Operator plus cam is $1000 per every 24 hours.

I have high speed camera that can take up to 250fps,500fps,1000fps,32000fps.


If you still serious in rental high speed camera, you can PM me, and answer this few questions below.
1. What is the minimum frame rate / speed that you required?
2. What is the size of the objects.
3. What is the evironment lighting condition (indoor/outdoor/daytime)?
4. What is the distance between object and the lens of the camera?
5. What is the budget that you set aside to rent the high speed camera for this project?
6. Colour/Monochrome camera? - for this please do take note that, high speed camera main objective is to take motion, not the quality of the picture. color 32bit and mono 8bit, if 1000fps, and we capture for 4sec, it means we have total of 4000pictures. If 4000pics used up 2GB for monocrhome, it means we need 8GB for color. Assuming it is just one shot, if we take 20 shots, you are going to need a big space and time to download and store.

For commercial project, contrary to your view, picture quality is of utmost consideration to the users. Only in cases for industrial use, user will require fast speed and not so concern about the image quality.

Also, for commercial project, usually color camera is preferred. And the resolution is also one of their main concern, of course there are others such as ISO and sensor dynamic range..

There are not many high speed camera in the world that can produce HD-Colour with high resolution at the moment.

The best camera is about 4Million pixels and 30 bit color, but I dont have it at the moment.
The Best camera can produce 4million pixels @1000fps. No one own this camera in South East Asia yet.

The best colour camera that I have at the moment is resolution 1024 X 1024 @ 2000fps.
Here is the specifications:
1.Sensor : CMOS (Bayer system color, single sensor) with 12-bit ADC and 17μm pixel size
2.Shutter : Global electronic shutter from 16.7ms to 2μs independent of frame rate
3.Recording Modes : Start, End, Center, Manual, Random,
4.Saved Image Formats : JPEG, AVI, TIFF, BMP, RAW (compressed or uncompressed) PNG and FTIF (8 bit). Images can be saved with or without image or commentdata.

FYI, I can do simple demonstration to you and your team using my very low end high speed camera for FREE!, limited to 1 hour demo only, and the recording will not be released.

The camera to shoot with for that frame rate you are looking at would be the the phantom. You can rent one from Hong Kong. The red currently only shoots at 120 frames per second. Although it does do some nice water and people running in slow motion its nothing close to what you see in the discovery timewarp program where they burst balloons filled with water.
