I am looking for SLR cameras cos' I am very much interested to get into film photography where we are not spoilt by the convenient of going digital, so if anyone could provide informations or have any offers to make, it would be great.

So far, i have only got to know canon, nikon, pentax and olympus.

Let me know if anyone has got any offers for these brands and informations would be greatly appreciated too.

:)

Most of these brands have discontinued their film cameras in Singapore. Probably have to buy used. If you are considering rangefinder (it's not a Single Lens Reflex system), there is always new Leica or Zeiss/Voigtlander. Check out www.chiifcameras.com

Cheers,

Try the BnS for the various brands. You should find an old but good condition SLR for a cheap price.
I am only familiar with Pentax, and the BnS there is active enough to have a flim camera pop up almost every week.

Just an additional info, the K-mount lens used on any Pentax SLR will be usable on their DSLR.

K13 marketing have lots of film slr

just a point here -

mentality is more important than format.

i have seen many film users snapping away like nobody's business, producing snapshots without thought. i have also seen many digital users who think , and think, and raise the camera, and put it down just as quickly....

so you have to think clearly here - is it your mentality? or is it a format? do you think the format is sufficient to force mentality? or should it be the other way round?

agreed with NM, mentality is more important than format.

shooting with film don't have exif data, if don't even bother to make paper or mental note of how ones shoot, what can he learn from shooting with film?

I'd say roughly a manual camera with metering like a Pentax ME Super should cost about $150-$170 with a 50mm f2 lens.
A very good electronic SLR (rather modern cira ~2000) like a MZ-5n with AF, auto aperture, multi segment metering, etc would be about $150 w/o lens or with a basic zoom kit lens.

Do a search yourself on the BnS sub-forums for more accurate prices and other brands.

As NM and catchlights said, know why you are into film. Ever since I've gone to digital, I've never looked back to film. Disliked the processing cost, uncertainty and more importantly the travel time spend to send in and collect prints from a good printer. On digital, I now get the freedom to 'process' the image as I want, rather than to leave it in the hands of the developer. I do love real prints on my hands though....

There is a trend now for ppl to want to stand out from the crowd and look cool by using film, but just know what you are getting into. My few cents.
Gd luck :)

I have to agree with you on that point, for me both mentality and format is important, it is not about which one triggers the other, but it is a different experience that 1 could gain from the aspects of the studies of Photography. Of course, I would have thought of it before I seek of something, cos I cannot be just base on somebody's view of something to decide to do it just like that, when money is involved, 1 could not make such a haste decision, I do know how much it would cost me to learn the other way round, I have been using DSLR in my company, using a SLR would be different learning experience, and getting in touch of the true essence of photography as a whole - inside & out.

It is a different experience altogether, no right or wrong here, and also personal preference to get in touch with something related that could provide another insight of photography, because for someone like me, I could be not focus, I need to have a feel of different things to weigh which is the most preferred, not so mentality but more 'feel' that is involved.

That's what i feel about it. :)

Hahah, to say the truth, that (above) is what I like. It may sounds crazy or stupid, but that is what i consider more real and true in life, it is like breathing while living I can feel it. I rmb back to my poly days, we have this videography lesson, shooting videos, and we do have to make notes of the sequence, which scenes and which take, it is more tedious than this. :bsmilie:

As I mentioned above, it is of personal preference, and also an advice from my colleague to know more about photography, by going back to the basic, nothing wrong with learning it now through digital, but all my life it has been digital, it is also why people go lomography, when you could use a normal photo and edit it in photoshop to create something similar, why they choose to go that long way? It is an experience you could not feel from going digital, that is how I feel about this. Also, it does not mean I would stick to film forever, different thing for different occasion, for pleasure shooting of course I would not go snapping around with the expensive film. But for film photography I would shoot it B&W, cos there is something about film B&W that cannot be achieved by digital remade. :)

I really appreciate all of your advices and your time to weigh the differences between digital and film, give me a lot to think about, I hope you guys can provide more advices in the future, thanks lots! So does that means you guys are not in film photography right now? :)
