Looking for a video camera

Hi guy. I need some advice from u guys as I'm purchasing my first camcorder.

I'm looking for an entry level camcorder. Budget is below 1000. Main use of the it is very general. Example overseas, birthday parties. Basically is some everyday life usages.

I have not really looking into any specific brands, as it is quite confusing to me now.

I have notice that entry level camcorder megapixel range from 0.3 to 5mp. And the price different is not a lot. So why is it as a case?

Is there Any important factors to consider to filter the kind or brands of camcorder?

Any help is much appreciated.

You're buying a camcorder because you want good video quality. Photo function is secondary. In fact higher megapixel count compromises low light performance. The better camcorders don't even have a still photo function. The most overriding factor is the age of the technology. This year's entry level camcorder can produce better results than a professional camcorder from 5 years ago sporting more and larger sensors. Significant areas of improvements are in image processing, CMOS architecture and optical stabilization.

For holidays and birthdays, consider getting a camcorder with a wider angle. Panasonic SD90 (28mm) is a good choice and suits your budget. If you decide to go for the best, Sony's CX760V can't be beat.

Have a look at Canon 550D. It's called the Canon Rebel T2i in the US. It has an 18 mega pixel sensor and takes great photos. It also has 1080 HD video, with a choice of frame rates. The video quality is superb, it looks great on my high definition TV.

TS is looking for a camcorder. Probably because it's lighter and more portable thn a Dslr
