Hi all!

I am a newbie in DSLR and been reading alot lately to know about DSLR. After weeks of reading up from this powerful well regulated clubsnap forum, I've decided to narrowed down to 2 DSLR camera models. Since AMK is very near to where I stay and MS colour was often mentioned for good service from thread I've read, so I chose to get my camera from AMK Hub MS Colour.

This encounter happened yesterday, 2nd Jan 2009 around 7pm. The shop has no customer when I entered the shop. There were 2 salesman(quite old, like in 40s to 50s) chatting happily in hokkien. As I hear them speaking in hokkien, being nice, I started conversing with them in Mandarin, asking them about the 2 DSLR models, Canon EOS 450 and Nikon D90.
One of the salesman in black sony alpha t-shirt replied me in a very unfriendly and bad-mannered way and was relunctant to show me their display models when I asked if they have any display set. He didnt bring out the canon display set. For nikon set, he mentioned in a very sarcastic way that nikon model was out of stock, not to mention abt display set.

After which, I started asking them how much will be Nikon D90 kit set paying with credit card and the salesman in white t-shirt started pressing the calculator very hardly and sulking and shaking head and showed me the price. Then i further asked what things were throw in together, then he replied in an unfriendly way again. Feeling that they doesn't want to serve me, I walked out of the shop.

After walking out, thinking much about the attitude they have gave, I am actually quite  !

I look quite a young female and dressed in jeans and t-shirt but that doesn't mean i don't have the capability to buy the camera!

They should treat all customers the same. I think I won't get anything from MS Colour anymore... with such service, I'll rather pay more for a nice chat to share views and tell me which camera I can get.

Anyone have similar encounter with this AMK Hub MS Colour shop? Pls share...

yeah, the one time i went to ms colour also, the uncles seemed to look down on me. i'm also a female.

but you should go when jasmine is there. she's the daughter i think. very helpful and very friendly. when i went i bought quite alot of bulky items and even though the bill didnt come up to alot, jasmine still gave me a nice nikon recyclable bag even though the uncle looked damn pissed that i was getting one. he even complained!

dont write off the shop yet, just know who to deal with when you go. maybe call the next time you plan to go down and check whether jasmine is there? if i'm not wrong theres another lady too over there, v helpful too but i havent experienced this for myself - but quite alot of the seniors here in cs have recommended her too. :)

i'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience there. i totally know how it feels being quoted exorbitant prices in places like cathay and being looked down when i ask about things just because i'm female too. :( these shop people seem to think that the female mind cannot fathom anything to do with photography beyond camwhoring and thats evidently not the case. hmph!

So far, i seldom have problem with them, because I usually look for Florence, the manager for MS Colour, or if you are lucky, you can get Jasmine to assist you too, she is the Business Development Manager and very nice person to talk to too.

BTW, Florence is usually at MS Colour AMK main branch, not AMK Hub.

Next time, what you could do is feedback to Forence. If you don't know the salesman name, you can get their name cards and said that you will get back to them later on the camera.

Always stay cool.

Enlive, your complaint has apparently caught the attention from MSC. I was there today and they have a printout concerning a complaint (I guess it must be this) and circulated around the staff at AMK Hub.

go to the one at amk jubilee and look for florence. the morons at the hub are useless.

:cry:ya feedback to Florence did what i always do so , sad you had the experience with this .

So far I don't have any bad experience with MS color, but I usually I go to the main brand, also deal with Jason, if Florence is around, she will offer me something to drink.

I think you can try visit the main brand, they are nice people there and the items are selling are reasonably, it worth to go back to get what you looking for.

For Me MS at AMK Hub, it just for price checking.
Buying stuff from MS,i still perfer the main store of AMK at food court.
Always look for Ms Florence, for her.
Some of the staff quite young of MS at AMK Hub. that a fews months back.

Always buy stuff with the staff serve you in good manner.
For me i will not upset, even i been serve badly. what the point.the shop are the losting end.
I will not buy anything from there onward. whose the losting side?
Customer are the real boss of the company, Whose buy their selling goods?
customer.
Where the staff salary came from , goods brought by customers.

I think this problem occurs almost anywhere. Sympathise with people doing sales. Everyday they have to answer the same routine questions. I am sure the question you asked are probably something that you already know, such as which is better D90 or 450D? I can imagine if I stand in the shop 8x6 and have the same questions thrown at me repeatedly, my mind would start to switch the dull mode. More often than not, you find these sales probably knows less than some enthuiasts here in clubsnap. Maybe, you should just pop your questions here.

Furthermore, I am not sure why people want to go MS and asked about Canon or Nikon. Doesn't the shirt they are wearing day in day out says a lot about what the shop would like to sell to you?

BTW, if you are a newbie. Why don't you just pick up the D90 or 450D from buy and sell? There are some pretty new 2nd hand there.

I know they are reading Clubsnap.... :)

AMK HUB MS Color Shop... Yet to go there,.. but my experiece is located at block 711, AMK - near the market. Not sure if its another branch.
Same black Alpha Sony t-shirt! Same rudeness experienced. Not sure if the shop had moved to AMK Hub.
It happened to me last year - twice by different sales person. I was there to purchase a camera bag - 'Shutter M', but nobody attended to me, even i saw few sales person there. So when I approach one of them, the lady told me they're actually having meeting & to come back later!!! Can you believe that? Why can't they just close off the shop & paste a note "meeting in progress - pls come back in 1hrs time" - something like that.... Well, I go off & came back on another day. This time it was a guy - no interest to sell me the camera bag due to some renovation that was happening at that time. But the shop was not closed.. It was open. Like the meeting, there's no signage telling us - their potential customers to come back later - something like that. I persuaded & gotten my camera bag. Still can remember his not helpful service. I hope they'll improve their service soon.

i have 2 lousy experience with MS Colors and i should've kicked myself real hard for goin back to them after the 1st incident!

anyway, the only ones i trust and go to are Cathay Photo, Lords, John 3:16, Orient Photo and Ruby Photo.

heard abit abt TK Photo but yet to purchase anything from them.

i dun have much impression abt them 2 went to the one at amk hub was totally ignored so went to blk 711 asked for a uv filter was given a lens protector instead didnt see till i reach home so sad dun think will buy from them again.

been to MS a number of times. Bought my 18 - 200 VR from them. No issues with them.

I had an unpleasant experience with the staff in AMk Hub as well. That time, i suppose the salesmen gave me a "cant-be-bothered" attitude as i was only purchasing a 50mm F1.8. Very unprofessional.

The main branch in AMK Central is of different story though. Florence is a very nice lady and will offer you a drink / give you a smile to acknowledge your presence even though the entire place is packed with people. Jason is also another nice chap there.

Wah, guess Florence will end up being the busiest now that everyone will look for her.

Seriously, I have patronised MS on many occasions and the service ranges from decent to very good. No complains so far.

Then again, i have not encountered any salesmen wearing the sony-alpha t-shirt. Is it a brand driven service and attitude from the salesmen? I certainly hope not.

I think it is still not defensible to say that salesperson can act irritated "because they are asked the same questions repeatedly". They should be worried if otherwise because it means no potential business.

Jason (young guy) had quitted last year. You must meant Jackson the older man.

To answer questions from customer regardless of wat, i believe that's their job and profession. Who likes answering the same questions over and over again? BUT, as a sales person, that's their job, they have to do it regardless of how unwilling they are. They are not people from forums who teach people out from their free time, people from forum do not earn from it, unlike sales people.

Yes, the sales person maybe wearing their alpha shirt, but that doesn't mean that they dun have any other brand products lying in the shop. They still have the duty or responsibilities to sell off other products when consumers asked for it.

As for the TS, i feel for you, not as in you got this kind of treatment from sales person. But your lack of research or information on which camera you wanna get. Hoped you get your camera and enjoy your shooting of pictures. :)

no wor.. i never ask "which is better?" i just ask them nicely if i can take a look at this 2 models to have a feel which has better grip. as mentioned earlier... i have already did research of details of these 2 models in forum and websites, i dont need technical specifications on these 2 models from them... just wanna hold them and feel it..

No matter where u go, 711 or hud, all are the same pattern!
Unless you are lucky to meet Florence or another uncle (p/s takes note, uncle will show you different faces when he is very busy!)....
