Lomo is a toy camera. Ppl generally create a cult around it and pretend it is art. Many ppl like to live in fantasy world.

Actually taste is subjective.

One man's meat could be another man's poison.

Not everyone likes close up shots of insects making love or shots of pointy facades behind a saliva spitting half fish, half lion statue.

Why limit yourself to so many endless possibilities?

If this form of "art" does not work for you, just move on, explore your own and enhance it.

Bashing it is in a way, unprofessional and highly reflective of your own persona.

I have a Digicam, Film SLR and a LOMO action sampler. I dont really care about it being overhype. I take my lomo out on a sunny day to the beach with my friends, and have shit loads of fun and some really interesting pictures. Quality is poor, but a lomo sure does have lots of character. In art, its the soul that counts.
Love my SLR, love my DIgi, love my lomo. A camera for different occasions. ;p

May I have the excuse to invite those who are interested, not interested or dont know what the hell that is, to come to my pbase website to view 3 random lomo shots. =)

When you need to churn out crap, yea.

I have no qualms with toy cameras, except when they grossly inflated by 500%.

nice thread... i luv my cybersampler

btw isn't the lomo per-$ better than the Leica? ;p;p

well it all depends, the lomo produces very contrasting colors. only problem is vignetting, which some people find appealing.

well i think "lomographers" take photos in artistic ways different from the normal proper photography. well if you're a die hard serious photographer and hate people who take photo's out of focus(and sometimes out of point) then you'll hate lomo.

seriously i love lomo, but i do HATE the lomo.com site. they are lame *%^#&%# cheats. they over hype the whole lomo thing, make lomo lovers look like desperate artsy fartsy artists and charge US$180(not with shipping) for a buget russian camera so that you'll be in the "cool" lomo group. personally i wouldn't pay $180++ to be "cool".

btw i got my lomo cheap off ebay, just my 2 cents. peace.

Not a Lomo, BUT, I bought my Holga in cheap clear plastic pack for about $20. The boxed version with its very "important" instruction cost $108.

no prob!

where to get the LCA??

Hi BoXXer and some who PMed me,

The camera that I bought cheaply is not a Lomo.
Its a Holga plastic camera. An aquaintance who visited HongKong brought quite a number back and sold it as toys for kids(those you see selling at some neighbourhood provision stores). I bought it for fun. Didn't know that some people have repackaged and overpriced it here.

To the rest,

I enjoy shooting with simple cameras for experiment and expression but I hate people who pass off some ploy or "genius" marketing plan as some art movement.

Brings fresh meaning to bullshitting.

wah! lomo sold at neighbourhood provision shops? :bsmilie:

I can't find LOMO cameras sold at provision shops.

But I have come across parallel(perhaps original) importers selling HOLGA cameras at HDB shops. Nobody seems to want it then but now its unbelievable people are paying $110 for it.

for me, i would say somewhere in between.

i don't like the hype, but i like the camera .... :bsmilie:

check out this website ..

When students at Singapore Management University (SMU) wanted to record the day-to-day life of the young institution, the photographers could have used the latest digital cameras. But they didn't. They chose low-tech 'Lomo' cameras that look like toys.
