Lucas Pezzini Leiva (born January 9, 1987 in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul) is a Brazilian football (soccer) midfielder. In 2005, playing for Grêmio, he won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B and the Gauchão 2006. Recently he has been called up by Dunga, current coach of the Brazilian national team. Lucas is nephew of the former Brazilian football (soccer) player Leivinha. He received an award as the best player in Campeonato Brasileiro 2006.
International Career
Lucas made his debut for Brazil on October 07, 2006 against Kuwait club, Al-Kuwait. Brazil won the match 4-0 and Lucas made his appearance in the second half. However, this appearance did not count as his first cap as this match was not considered as official friendly match by FIFA.
Lucas is presently captain of the Under-20 Brazilian team playing the 2007 South American Youth Championship.
