GERRARD: THE REF CRACKED UNDER PRESSURE
Steven gerrard believes referee Rob Styles has cost Liverpool two precious Premier League points after wrongly awarding Chelsea a second half penalty at Anfield.
Frank Lampard levelled from the spot to cancel out Fernando Torres' brilliant opener, but it was the manner of the penalty award which left the Liverpool camp seething after the game.
Florent Maldouda's run took him into the path of Steve Finnan and after the Frenchman went to ground Styles awarded a controversial penalty, much to the disgust of the home team.
"I don't want to say too much because I'll get into trouble, but the referee didn't play well today," said Gerrard.
"Whether it was because the Chelsea players were talking I don't know, but in the end he's cracked and made a bad decision. It wasn't a penalty and I hope he comes out and says sorry now. We have to apologise as players if we make mistakes so I hope he does the same.
"There were so many positives from that performance, though, and I really think it shows we can challenge this season.
"The goal was excellent. I managed to slide the ball into Fernando's path and he showed great quality to finish it off. More of the same please, Fernando!"
Gerrard also revealed he will have an x-ray tomorrow on his fractured toe to determine if he can play any part in England's midweek friendly with Germany.
