Season starting liao!
Some exciting signings to look forward to. Am looking forward to seeing the likes of Torres, Benayoun, Babel, Voronin and other newbies in action as well as seeing the old favourites back. Hope the team settles well.
I was a little disappointed that we still seemed lacking in 2 area; we still are short of flair players who can get past the opposition, especially on the wings and more importantly for me, we still lack a dead ball specialist. Free kicks are vital in tight games and a good free kick taker can translate to quite a few goals from direct shots and set pieces. Riise blasting it isn't good enough and frankly our corner and free kick deliveries are more hit and hope than anything.
Other than that, it looks like we have a very good team, far better than last season. I think Man Utd would still have a better team but I think we prevented the gap from widening and we closed the gap on Chelsea. We at least can seriously challenge this season, and possibly snatch it if the others slip up.
Now it's up to Rafa and his backroom team. Having the players is one thing. Getting them motivated and playing well is the key. Main hope is that Rafa learn to let loose a little and go for the jugular more often. He fears losing too much and this is not the best attitude for a team hoping to win the league. Not losing can win you cups, but for the league, only winning gives you 3 points. Am hoping for a more positive approach this season.
To me, we need to look out for Arsenal and Spurs. These are 2 good young sides with good managers. Arsenal especially may have a young side but they know each other well and is well prepared by Wenger for the task ahead. We must be careful not to slip up as I think they will start well and be hot on our heels.
Here's hoping to plenty of cheer this season.
You'll never walk alone
