Liverpool stars want Rafa over-ruled on Owen bid
tribalfooball.com - May 28, 2007

Senior Liverpool stars Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have asked club owner George Gillett to bring Michael Owen back from Newcastle United this summer.

The Telegraph says Gillett and Tom Hicks are keen but Rafa Benitez, the Liverpool manager, is less enthusiastic and any deal is unlikely.

The desire of Gerrard and Carragher to restore Owen to the Liverpool fold is hardly a secret. Both have talked openly about their admiration for Owen. All three came through the Academy ranks and remain good mates, despite Owen having left Anfield for Real Madrid and now Newcastle United.

This is more than friends wanting to be re-united. Owen is the type of serial finisher Liverpool are crying out for; their lack of a cutting edge was highlighted during last week's European Cup final defeat to AC Milan.

FAINT. Hope is rumour.

Yeah, it would be very sad if Liverpool buy back Owen. He's already past his use-by date. Since his departure from Anfield, he has so far not performed up to his glorious day in a Liverpool jersey and I doubt will be back to his peak. Am sure for that kinda money, Liverpool will be able to buy a better and younger striker. I pray SAF too won't buy him. We want Hantelaar! :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Since they come from the same youth academy, it's understandable that Gerrard and Carra want him back. Maybe, for old time sake and wanting to see the cameradarie extending from the social life to the field. Hope, both of them understand that the football field is no place for sentiment and don't let their hearts rule their heads.

Ya lor. They graduated from the same academy. That why they speak up for him. Hope that they know Owen is already past tense.

though i don't want owen back, i must admit that his placement and positioning within the box is very good which shows that there's more than one dimension to his game.

now with his pace gone, this is the only thing that he has going for him.

in addition, owen and gerrard seem to have an uncanny understanding knowing where to find each other on the field. probably due to their long time together at the academy.

i very much doubt rafa will want owen back as owen left not only due to $$ but also due to his unwillingness to accept rafa's rotation policy.

for the majority of fans, yours truly included, owen's leaving was tantamount to treason of the highest order. should we be gracious and accept him back to the fold or cast him out in the wilderness.

liverpool may not want him back but having him also means that we are depriving another team of his services, especially against us.

although he is predictable, he is still one of the best, as long as he is not injured. And his understanding and connection wiht Stevie G is almost telepathic lor

and if we can get him back at a cheaper price than we sold him for.... mai hiam lah
