Liverpool agree fee for £16m midfielder



Liverpool are set to sign Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani after the two clubs agreed a fee of £16million.

Personal terms will not be discussed until Xabi Alonso completes his move to Real Madrid.

However, if Alonso’s move to Madrid collapses, Liverpool will not discuss terms with Aquilani and the transfer will not be completed.

Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena welcomed the signing of the 25-year old Italian international.

He said: “Aquilani is destined to improve even more and could do so even more quickly under a great coach like Benitez.

“A player like him can comfortably play for Liverpool or any other club. He was sidelined due to physical problems last season and could not be at his best, but he has proved to be a great footballer.
“Aquilani can do well in the Premier League, even though it is a more physical league than Serie A.

“Benitez is very good at setting up the team and moving it around. He has many solutions at his disposal and could employ Aquilani in different ways.”

Dont worry,every season starts with great promise...its only when we cant compete till the end of the season will the promise fades or disappear...we have steadily improved under Rafa & i'm sure we will continue to improve. Who were mascherano & alonso before they came to LFC? alonso played for soceidad & even madrid wont sign him. Mascherano? Cant get into the regular west ham team. Have faith...:thumbsup:

I wouldn't read too much into last night performances. It is after all, only a friendly match, so I wouldn't expect the players to go all out for fear of injury. They are playing in an unfamiliar envoirnment (hot & humid), and as mentioned, there could be jetlag, and too much partying (contractually some of the players will have to give some guest appearance here and there). Of course, the players may be looking forward more to visiting Patpong later:sticktong:bsmilie:
