Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that Fernando Torres and Alvaro Arbeloa could be in contention for a return against Real Madrid.
Both players are desperate to make the clash - Arbeloa to face his former employers, and Torres to try and get one over on his old rivals from his Atletico Madrid days.
Torres had been suffering from an ankle injury and Arbeloa a hamstring problem, but despite this, Benitez has moved to declare the pair as possible inclusions for the second leg tie with the Spanish giants.
"Fernando is improving but it's still too soon to say if he'll be fit," the Reds boss told the club's official website.
"He is working hard with the physios and we now have two or three more training sessions before we have to make a decision.
"I think he can be close but each player is different. We just have to wait and see.
"Arbeloa is much the same as Torres and we will try to push him harder over the next couple of days."
One player less likely to return, but still in with a slim chance of making the Madrid tie is defender Daniel Agger, who has been suffering from back problems.
Benitez added: "It will be harder for Agger but he too is working hard with the physios. All three could be close."

Ian Rush believes Liverpool will complete the job when they face Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night and has warned the Spanish giants to beware the Anfield factor.
The legendary frontman feels Juande Ramos' men will struggle to come to terms with the Reds' famous 12th man and is confident Rafael Benitez's side can build upon their first-leg victory at the Bernabeu.
"Madrid haven't played at Anfield and they won't be ready for the atmosphere," he told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"They'll say they know about it but look at Juventus in 2005. They said they were expecting it, but were blown away in the first-half. Chelsea were 1-0 down before they knew it that year too.
"When the players walk out onto the Anfield pitch in the Champions League it's a completely different atmosphere to anything you'll find anywhere else, and that could be the difference for us.
"I'm certain we can get through the tie.
"This is what the Europe is all about. This is the start of the Champions League for me - if you lose then that's it, you're out. We're into the serious business-end of things.
"You're playing against good teams all the way now, and if you can get into the last eight and get a good draw then anything can happen."
