DIC PREPARING LIVERPOOL BID?




The investment arm of the Dubai Government - Dubai International Capital - could be preparing a £500million bid for Liverpool.

DIC were thought to be considering buying co-owner Tom Hicks' half of the club, but the BBC reports that they are set to make an offer to both Hicks and George Gillett.

Hicks was reportedly considering severing his ties with Gillett, with DIC providing the financial muscle behind any buyout.

The consortium were in the running to take over the club in January last year, only to be beaten by the American investors.

Now, with Hicks and Gillett trying to re-finance the loans they took out to buy the club, DIC could move in with an offer to both men.

The move may prove popular with the Liverpool support, if only because it may secure the immediate future of Rafa Benitez.

Relations between Benitez and the American owners have all but collapsed after a series of public disagreements, that reached a nadir when Hicks revealed they had offered his job to Jurgen Klinsmann.

Hicks and Gillett are believed to be close to finalising the terms of the £350million loan, to repay the initial loans they took out to buy the club, and purchase new players in the summer.

There are also significant fears among fans that if they do secure these loans, then large portions - if not all - of their debt will be transferred onto the club, in the same way that Malcolm Glazer's loans are secured against Manchester United.

If it is to happen, the DIC bid will most likely go through in the next couple of weeks, giving Hicks and Gillett a get-out before the re-financing is finalised.
